Traveling WV: Tomahawk Maker

Each tomahawk is hand made with intricate carvings and beautiful inlays. (WCHS/WVAH)

RW, Wilson worked in the steel industry in Weirton West Virginia for 46 years. During his free time he traveled to gun shows selling his handmade tomahawks he made on the side. It was at one such show in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1966 that he met a man who was looking for authentic props for a major motion picture adapted from the book "Crow Killer" by Raymond W. Thorp and Robert Bunker. That film turned out to be "Jeremiah Johnson" starring Robert Redford, and Wilson's tomahawks were carried by all the principal actors.

RW is an amazing man.  Humble, smart and talented.  He believes in sharing the talent and has fostered many new knife makers!

The original story is here and includes a pretty good video with him http://wchstv.com/community/traveling-west-virginia/traveling-wv-to...
