@paul..i like that knife to..then again- i really like any knife with a wharnie blade.

  • Jon Salmon

Anybody know what blade steel Case uses on their "Case Select" series? Is it the same "Tru-Sharp" stainless they use on their standard knives, or something a bit more exotic? Thanks - Jon Salmon

  • Howard P Reynolds

I think the "upgrade" is only nickel silver liners and pins; maybe better matched scale color.  Same blade steel as regular Case knives.

    Wikipedia:

Nickel silver, German silver,[1] Argentan,[1] new silver,[1] nickel brass,[2] albata,[3] alpacca,[4] or electrum[5] is a copper alloy with nickel and often zinc. The usual formulation is 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc.[6] Nickel silver is named for its silvery appearance, but it contains no elemental silver unless plated. The name "German silver" refers to its development by 19th-century German metalworkers in imitation of the Chinese alloy known as paktong (cupronickel)[7][8] All modern, commercially important nickel silvers (such as those standardized under ASTM B122) contain significant amounts of zinc, and are sometimes considered a subset of brass.[9]

  • Ken Spielvogel

There' goes Ken again making me want a new Case fixed blade! LOL!! I like it Ken! I do like the traditional leather handle.

I remember those Lee. They look super the second time around! I'm going to have to think seriously about getting the Trapper in it!

I THINK, the Trappers with Osage Orange handles and the "XX" on the bolster were made for Deadwood Knives. I think. And it hurts to think.

Thanks Max.  One thing nice about collecting Mini Blackhorns is that they are not expensive.

  • Howard P Reynolds

Because of comments here about the Mini Blackhorn, I picked one up a month or so ago at Lowes. It is my new letter opener.  You have a nice collection, Charles.  It is a shame that Case doesn't date these.

  • Howard P Reynolds

Forgot to mention, Charles, I saw an NWTF Mini Blackhorn at casexxknives.net #8906 $15.99.

Howard, I wish they did date all of them.  Of the eight that I have, four are dated and four aren't.

Craig, there are several Mini Blackhorns that I don't have yet.  Over time I hope to pick more of them up.  Right now I have four knives on order, a Case trapper and three Rough Riders.

  • Ken Spielvogel

Very nice collection Charles, they are good practical knives.

  • Paul Work

The Mini Blackhorn is one of Case's most under appreciated knives.
