This is certainly true,  John, but sometimes the need for instant gratification outweighs the alternative.

Point I was making, though, is how can a place that only has 9 knives be an authorized dealer?

No Cabela's nearby, Toby, though we've got a Tractor Supply that usually stocks some of the more common patterns.

It's looking like the closest decent CASE dealer is probably 65 miles away.  And my wife wonders why I search for dealers near where we go on vacation.

  • Syd Carr

Got that beat JJ, my local excuse for a hardware store, one that is supposedly a "Case dealer", (Ace franchise), has a grand total of 3 Case knives available over the counter; Yellow Delrin Trapper & Mini Trapper, ($49.99 & $39.99 respectively), & a lone Jigged Redbone Trapper, ($64.99). They have a few Bear & Sons and a few Buck flippers, (not even a 110!!!), & many many, (TOO damn many IMHO), Frost & Rough Riders. It's really a sad sight.

  • Tobias Gibson

I think part of the problem is that folks don’t go to hardware stores to buy pocket knives anymore.  And the big box stores sell the cheap-o Tacticals and such because they are volume “take it or leave it” retailers.

  • J.J. Smith III

I think that many Ace Hardware stores carry a small stock of CASE knives.  Hardware store up the road, couple towns away, has more than the supposed dealer.

Toby is probably right in saying that folks don't go there to buy knives, but on the rare instance that you really need a working knife I'd like to be able to think I could find one there.

I came across this video, yesterday, and thought it was hilarious until I realized this guy was serious.

I don't think that I'm buying a collector knife when I buy one from a hardware store or a big box like Lowes.

My very first Seahorse cane from Lowe's and the much touted box went into the trash.

Big deal, blister packed. No box, into the pocket it goes.

One of the problems with dealer being called "Authorized Case Dealer" is, there are different levels of "Authorized Case Dealer".  If I remember the base "Authorized Case Dealer" can have just a few knives in stock after the first big order. I can't remember all the titles, but there's Platinum dealers, Master dealers, Exclusive Master dealers, etc, etc.

All/most of the dealers I do business with on the internet have HUGE selections. Waiting for a box is like Christmas to me! LOL! And some of the dealers will hand pick for you! I have a couple that I've done a ton of business with and they'll search through all their stock to find what I'm looking for. But not all dealers will do that.

Also some online dealers will get in some new/old stock which is nice.

  • David Gallup

You guy's are guilting me out for not stopping in on my local Authorized Case Dealer recently.  Jungle J is only about 5 miles away.  It's run by some of his kids now but still has an amazing selection.  I last bought a Case Scout knife in mammoth from them to give to a friend's son when he got his Eagle Scout badge.  Thought I had a picture but can't seem to find it now.

  • Max McGruder

I like Jungle J's If you don't see it online ,ask! They just might have it!

  • Billy Oneale

John, I keep all the boxes to the ones I collect. But if I buy in a clam pack, I intend on using it.

I am looking for a Case Hawkbill yellow & green handles with turkey tracks on them. Also has a turkey scene on the blade, anyone have one for sale?

    CASE repair...

Once CASE officially acknowledges receipt, of a knife for repair, about how long does it take?

I know that it was received on May 21st and I got an email giving me a repair number on June 5th.

It's hard to say JJ. Sometimes it's a couple of  weeks, sometimes close to the maximum time.....I think they say up to six weeks? Depends on how busy they are. I had one knife a long time ago take just under two weeks. And a Congress that they completely rebuilt for me take six weeks. It was worth the wait though!

  • J.J. Smith III

Gettin antsy, Craig.  Already took 2 weeks from the time it arrived in PA till they opened the package, and acknowledged the receipt.

I was hoping that replacing a backspring would be a quick fix.

  • J.J. Smith III

    Got this today...

Nowhere does it say it was repaired...m

Don't know whether to be happy or worried.  I've heard if CASE sending back unrepaired knives.

I LOVE the new Case Campaign.  It takes the weapon out of the knife and puts the tools back in

Just picked up this Case Mini Trapper with Caplifter/Screwdriver blade and amber bone scales. Gonna carry this one at work for a while because this screwdriver blade is my pass key to get into all the electrical control panels.

  • Billy Oneale

    LOL, Ricky, good choice.

The Case Barlow is making a comeback for 2019!

  • Old Guy

"The Case Barlow is making a comeback for 2019!"

Be still my heart! Hope it's a single blade and not a Grand Daddy!

The "standard" 62009 Barlow is what they are bringing back. They will be put out all year for 2019. And single blades will be made. The first one should be a blue bone single blade.

7 Barlows have been announced for the first releases.

    Three with a single blade.

The NEW Barlows for 2019 have hit the shelves! Go check them out!

  • Old Guy

Thanks for the pics, Craig. I was hoping they would have made a single blade in red bone (smooth or otherwise)  as personally the Blue Caribbean doesn't float my boat.  I kinda like the Corn Cob (not shown) but again it's blue and I don't need another a spear. Obviously they can't please everyone, lol.  Others to come later? Maybe?

    Craig Henry

It's figured that there might be 30-50 Barlows made this year, so you might get just what your looking for! Keep your fingers crossed.

    Craig Henry

........plus some of the new Barlows will be SFO's so there should be lots to pick from.

Got a message today from a couple of Case dealers........

    The's a Barlow shortage already!

It'll take a couple weeks or so longer for some dealers to get them in!

I predicted this would happen. The Barlow is arguably the most popular Jack Knife, maybe ever? And Case hasn't made it for years. The perfect storm! LOL!

The basic 2019 product guide is out. Looks like the "Case knife boom" of 2018 is continuing to 2019.

  • Rick Hooper

Hi folks, long time since my last question or comment. Good to be back. I saw this double end cattle type knife. And checked my Levine's guide and it;s not in there! It's really a rare one , if Bernard Levine doesn't cover it. Now the seller says it pre-dates Case Bros. and Platt's , however it looks like, a pattern both could have produced. I would say a 1905-1920 era , contract knife, for a short lived local cutlery concern, in Eldred, Pa. made by Platt's Sons or W.R. Case .  Here;s a photo, and the link. https://www.ebay.com/itm/VERY-RARE-VTG-CASE-PLATTS-ELDRED-CUTLERY-C...

Lots of new releases announced! Looks like the Case knife boom from last year is continuing.....and 2019 is just getting started!

Check these out - http://www.casexx.com/NewRelease/  (Of course they can be ordered from your favorite dealer when they arrive. SHC is shown because they are one of the only dealers that shows an advanced notice for ones about to arrive in the very near future......that's why I have a link to them.) :-)

Anyone see those the new Black & White Carbon Fiber knives that Case just brought out? Looks pretty neat to me. I think I might get a Mako Shark in it.

Also.......how do you like the new "modernized" Shark Tooth made in conjunction with Southern Grind Knives?

  • Syd Carr

Case boom is happening here, just received a Sod Buster from Dan Fitzgerald, my first soddy. Always wanted one of these and I like the fit/finish & the general "feel" of the knife, I give it a thumbs up!
