Knives have been made at the factory of Queen Cutlery Company of Titusville Pennsylvania for over 100 years. It is arguably the oldest and last American Cutlery that truly continues to produce knives in the same way as they were produced there when the factory opened in 1902. The factory’s first tenant was the Schatt & Morgan Cutlery Company: Queen Cutlery Company displaced Schatt & Morgan there in 1933. Queen City Cutlery Company first began to produce knives in 1918 around the end of the First World War, incorporated in 1922, and shortened their name to “Queen Cutlery Company” in January of 1946. Purchased by Daniels Family Cutlery Corporation on September 18, 2012

WOW! Howard that may indeed be a great cottage industry. I wonder if your brother has a piece of it laying around to be analyzed?

This is my little queen knife...anyone familiar with this tiny bone handled gem?

Here is another one of my Queen knifes that is bone handled. Handles appear to have a green cast color, linings are brass, both blades are single snap. Would like knife be considered scarce. It has old sharpening marks on both blades but not cracks or missing bone pieces on handles.

How long are those 2 knives when closed? And is there more to the tang stamp on the equal-end pen knife other than the Q logo? It's hard to tell for sure from the photo.

Don- I'm guessing the Queen City knife is 37/8"closed?? It appears to be a Queen City 2 blade jack in Winterbottom bone (circa 1922-1932) It was valued at $125 back in 1999 in Jim Sargent's " American Premium Guide to Knives & Razors". Add 17 years to the present time, $125 ++

Here is another one of my older queen knifes, it measures about 3-3/4th in length and has strong double snaps on both blades...appears to have been used very little. I really appreciate you guys/gals helping me in learning about the knifes I have. Thanks to all.

Don,Thanks for sharing. These are a lot like a Queen #10, but they were not so labeled till after WWII. There is a new resource added to the Queen Historical Documents website that shows color photographs of Queen Knives before 1980 - They are from the 7th (and final) Sargent book referenced above and they are WONDERFUL, Very excited. Here is a link showing an old Queen City heavy Jack - looks like yours but with bone.

Lots of great items on the Queen site!

Well, according to the latest version of Sargent's book from 2008, this is what a mint version of each would bring (although I think Sargent's values are a tad on the high side of realistic prices). The best way to see what the knife is worth is to watch Ebay auctions and see what a knife in similar condition to yours is bringing.
Queen # 5 Senator Pen with Winterbottom bone. mint = $30-$40
(I think) Queen City, #10 Jack, with Winterbottom bone. mint = $80-$90 (this exact knife with this shield isn't listed in Sargent's book)
Queen City, Heavy Jack, black composition handles. mint = $50-$60

this is not a Queen but it came out of the same building. It's been used but no abused. No chips or cracks and it measures 5-3/4" closed..I think this would be illegal in some states to even carry.

This is a real cutie measuring 2-3/8th closed. Both blades are double snap and aside from moderate sharpening I'd say it is in very good condition. The handles are top notched mother of pearl and have no chips or cracks. The liners are part of the end caps and appear to be German silver.Does anyone know about this company and an approximate value...thanks to all that are helping me.

VERRRY nice! Love the MOP shield! Is that about a Mountain Man size knife?
Apr 14, 2016

Derek,
That is stunning! I am wondering if it was a part of the heritage series. If I remember right they were all S&M with a MOP shield

Derek Wells
Yep Richard it is the same as a Mountain Man in Size - Unfortunately it didn't come with a box Jan so I have no additional info in it - but if someone here can expand my knowledge I'd appreciate it. I will say it has a super deep blade etch and really slick smooth action.
Apr 14, 2016
Derek Wells
Ooops You can officially mark me a 'D' for dope ... I should have added the etching reads "Schatt Morgan American Pocket Knives Titusville PA 1902 2002"
The more I study on it, the more I see this has been put together with a lot of care and attention to fine details ... the pins ... the inlay ... is top shelf!

That is one seriously beautiful knife you have there Derek! I love that deep etching on the blade. And I especially love the horn scales and pearl shield! The only thing I can think that could possibly make that knife any nicer would be if it were in my pocket and not yours! Congratulations, mate!

Ah, so it's a 100th Anniversary knife. Here's what the box would have looked like, then:

Thanks Folks and Richard for the Linkto Dandy ... If the knife in the link sold for $200 US$ I got mine very cheaply $67 Aust That's about $47 US$
Wish I had the box ..........

Derek,
Honestly, send an email to Queen. If they do have a box they will let you know. It is not unheard of. They have been in the same factory for ever and a day. Sometimes they have a few odds and ends someone may be looking for. The worst case scenario is they dont and we have to start searching LOL

All this talk made me dig out my buffalo horn mountain man. It has the MoP keystone shield and the 2002 blade etch on the reverse side but not the centennial etch on the obverse. Otherwise looks to be the same. Love that centennial etch, wish mine had it!

A pic of my Queen Mountain man (My around the farm working knife) - just one of those photo opportunities that comes along once in a blue moon.
Apr 16, 2016

These Mountain men knives are great, big sturdy handle, big enough blade to tackle heavy work. The polished Buffalo horn with pearl keystone is one of my favorites, although I like something with a bit rougher handle for work use - like the ACSB. One of the funny things about knife companies is how they find reasons for special editions- the100 anniversary in 2002, relies on Schatt & Morgan moving to Titusville from Gowanda,NY. While the 80th anniversary (also in 2002) dates to the time when Queen incorporated. Lots of fun and nice knives.

Dale,
With Clarence gone, his grandson Austin is running the company. He also enjoys a great relationship with Queen and is a member here with us. I would like to see the premier come back as a sort of tribute to Clarence (and I really like the shield).

Gentlemen...2009 TCC Farmers Jack...arrived today...lovely knife, excellent fit and finish. I tried to put the bug is DFC's ear about perhaps bringing this one back for a limited run, with a larger rooster's comb on the secondary. And as much as I love Queens use of bone scales, perhaps some of the newer stabilized woods? I suppose if the interest were there...we shall see. Regards.

I was able to get to the Great Lakes Knife Show on Friday and got to have a nice talk with Ken Daniels. He had a couple of those whittlers out for sale and told me that it had been on the cover of Blade, though he hadn't yet seen it. He told me that it's the knife he's currently carrying, and pulled one out of his pocket to prove it. I was really impressed with those knives, and feel that the cover exposure was well earned.
I almost picked one up, but he had a Ruple Sowbelly that I just couldn't pass up.
