    Is it a canoe?

I don't know, but I finally bought the Sunset Winterbottom bone Moose on Friday. That's the first Case knife I have bought since being able to buy the two Cheetahs in the drawing last winter.I have had my eye on this for awhile. I also like the new sawcut bone that Case is doing.

Sawcut bone? Like this? I like it too.

  • Tobias Gibson

That was an interesting video, Jan. I'm seriously thinking of making something similar out of old milk jugs, pvc pipe and duct tape!

  • Billy Oneale

    Just like that, Craig

I also like their sawcut Amber Bone on their Rancher series, which is similar.

40% off, their discount price, a Case knife to be announced midnight (EST) Dec. 1 at Shepherd Hills Cutlery. - "Offer good while supplies last" - I bet they won't last long......whatever it is.

  • Gerald Hines

Craig if the original knife they offer sells out they will offer another pattern or a variations of that pattern.

Oh okay, thanks Gerald, I didn't know that.

My new Case knives are first class!!!

  • Jay Sack

All of my Case knives are stainless steel.  I am wondering what  I will need to do if a purchase a case CV knife

  • Gerald Hines

Jack if it's going to be a user just a light coat of oil on the blades. If it's a collector Ren wax will help protect it.

  • Gerald Hines

Here's one I put a patina on using vinegar.

  • Steven Matthew

    Love how it turned out.

I just put Renaissance Wax on my carbon steel EDCs. I don't like oily knives in my pocket. Renaissance Wax has been working great for me since I went to carbon steel!

  • Billy Oneale

Here is my newest Case knife. It is a 4 1/8" Moose in Sunset Winterbottom Bone.

    That's a pretty one Billy!

  • Tobias Gibson

That's a really nice Moose. Billy.  Sunset winterbone is reallu nice, too.  Did you hear why its called "wnterbone" the other night?

  • Bill Fletcher

Great looking Moose, Billy.  I really like the texture and color of the handles,  and I picked up a hawkbill in the Sunset winterbone.  Nice addition to your collection!

  • Billy Oneale

Toby, I didn't hear, I may not have been paying attention. Why did they call it that?  Craig, Bill, thanks. Bill, I figured you added one to your Hawkbill collection. I think this is one of the nicer colors and textures that Case has had out in a while. I really like the Case Stag knives, but don't like spending that much just to have them.

Apparently back in the day, there were numerous companies that provided knife scales to cutlery makers.  One of those companies was the Winterbottom Bone Company.  This was the style jigging the company used on their bone.  They also mentioned another bone jig pattern that was named after a company but I don't recall who it was.

Queen was well known for using a lot of Winterbottom back in the day.

The other company was the "Rogers Manufacturing Company"

Bernard Levine - "...the firm started in business in 1891, making manufactured bone products, and also bone fertilizer."

Didn't Case recently make some in "Rogers Bone"? Or was it Queen?

One thing I like about Case......they have a good selection of smaller knives!

Some people, like me, like a smaller knife, and some people can only carry a smaller knife out of their house because of stupid knife laws.

  • Paul Wright

    Hi all,

Can anybody recommend a good way to display Case trappers? I'm trying to decide between the countertop display and the wooden case with grid. If you recommend the grid, which one should fit trapper and other larger folding knives.

    Thanks!

    Paul

    :-)

If I remember, Smokey Mountain Knife Works sells a display case made just for Trappers. At least I THOUGHT it was SMKW.....maybe it was somewhere else. Geez, I forget where I saw it, BUT, I KNOW I saw it!

  • Steven Matthew

It was SMKW's, Craig, I was looking into it myself. I think it holds 3knives.

At least it wasn't my addled pea brain! But, I thought I saw one that displayed more than three? Maybe not....maybe my addled brain is adding that part.

The six pack is out of stock at the moment

THAT'S IT Toby! Thanks, now I know I'm not completely nuts.

  • Paul Wright

    I'll give that a look-see. Thanks a lot!

    Craig Henry

It looks like a nice Trapper display. I might eventually get one myself.

  • Steven Matthew

    Lol. Let's all get one!

I need some new display cases. I made some big ones with glass fronts that I hung on the walls, but I sold them years ago. I'm thinking about getting the segmented ones and see if I can hang them on the walls. These - http://www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/products/Smoky+Mountain+Knife+...

    Or

  • Paul Wright

I like they way the Case wooden display looks. Will probably get the 12x18G if it can accommodate the trappers. I sent an email to Shepherd Hill asking about this.

  • Steven Matthew

I'm with ya. they look real nice. Only thing is they would not match anything else in my make shift room. lol

The case will look nicer then most of my pieces. lol

  • Paul Wright

lol...I know what you mean. It's a good way to make your collection stand out...that's for sure. I have a couple of Case display cases (without the grid) that I inherited, and they look better than what I have him them. This time, though, I just want a display with a grid, to just keep and display my folded knives.

The ones at SMKW are inexpensive, so maybe they'll work? I DO like the looks of those display cases at Shepherd Hills.

  • Tobias Gibson

I went withe something a little larger. (Actually this is one of two large ones.  I also have a couple smaller display cases and i'm workign on a "Wall of Knives")

  • Billy Oneale

    Nice, Toby.

  • Billy Oneale

Here are the display cases that I keep my Case knives in.

    Craig Henry

Toby and Billy, those are real nice! For myself, I wanted something I could hang on the wall with a glass front, like I used to make myself. The ones at Shepherd Hills are pretty much what I want, I just wish they were a bit cheaper.

A whole dresser for knives! Hmmm.........

  • Paul Wright

Those are really nice setups, Toby and Billy!

Toby, I like that Jack Daniels jug, too!! lol

Thanks Gerald! They have a lot of stuff!

  • Emory Alexander

Does anyone know if the Gray Bone Mid Folding Hunter has the pocket clip?

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

Good question Emory! I can't find anyone that shows the back side, and I can't find a mention of a pocket clip!

  • Gerald Hines

I only know of one Mid folding hunter without a clip and it is the Old Red pocket worn one. So I would assume it had a clip.

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

You'd think someone around here would have one to tell us about. But if you have only seen the Old Red pocket worn without one, that would be a good assumption Gerald.
