Bob, put a speaker under her pillow and at night run a recording that repeats "I can't live without knives....." Then after a couple of weeks she'll WANT you to buy knives.....or she'll kill you.....either way you'll be out of your misery.

    Any new Case knives??

  • Tobias Gibson

Case XX USA era (before dots) 6207 Mini Trapper.  When I received it (along with about fifty other knives) it was rusted shut.   Took a while to loosen the blades enough to get them open.  As photo shows, the back scale was broken.   Some TLC, Coon-P and gentle rust removal got the blades operational.  The handle was another problem.   A little dental resin, and some hand jigging and dying brought the knife back to a decent quality EDC.

Too bad that scale is busted

Considering this "Half Whittler" this month......

  • Tobias Gibson

It indeed was too bad, yet it cleaned up nice. You need to check it out with a magnifying glass to realize it was repaired. (I'm ethical.  I not going to  try to sell it!)

Anyone familiar with these? Do they come with the "Corelon" etch like the ones I see at SMKW? I don't like that etch.

  • Max McGruder

Not all have the etch I have some with that are the First in the series and some

    that don't have the etch.

    Corelon with etch

There they are. Thanks Max. I don't know why I don't like the ones with the etch. Maybe if I get one WITH the etch it will grow on me. It doesn't look too bad in your pictures.

Funny, I was looking at the "Half Whittler and you post pictures of some Corelon knives!

  • Billy Oneale

I have all that were made in the Cats Eye corelon and they have the blade etch.
  • Max McGruder

Craig, that's why I posted the pics, had them for years. Also have some micro toothpicks in it about an inch and a half long! Have to take some pics tomorrow and post them!

Deadwood knives has quite a few in stock in all patterns. http://www.deadwoodknives.com/c-12153-case-xx.aspx?pagenum=1&se...

  • Lee Smith

I try to stay away from blade etch. Looks real bad if you mess them up.

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

That's the only problem with etches in general. If there's a minor scratch or abrasion you want to polish out the etch gets messed up. And it's a royal pain to work with Q-Tips and toothpicks  to get around the etch.....which I have done.

Anyone have any of the "Barnboard Burnt White Bone"?  Pictures? I'm looking at this one...........

    Craig Henry

I feel the need for a Whittler.

  • Max McGruder

I have a couple but they're called Barnboard Burnt Oatmeal Bone.

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

Hmmm, what's the difference, if any? Different year of manufacture?  Thanks Max.

  • Max McGruder

I don't think they're different years but I'd have to check for sure. I'm on my phone not my PC right now. Some are more burnt than others.

    Craig Henry

Okay thanks Max, I appreciate it!

  • Max McGruder

Craig both of the knives the Toothpick and the Slimline below are from Jan 2009. I do have a burnt white from 2005 but it has regular jigging.

I wanted to get a Whittler or two this month, but I was looking at your Stockmans in the Stockman group...........so many knives, so little money. I wonder, if I had Cass play a tambourine while I danced on the corner.........

  • Max McGruder

So your a dancer!! I gotta do something also!  but not sure what!

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

No, I'm not a dancer. I just kinda wiggle and hope for some pennies and an occasional nickel.

Hey Max, I see you got the new Chestnut Smooth Bone Stockman. Did you get any others in the Chestnut Smooth Bone?

    Craig Henry

Hey, who's got Gray Bones? I'm 90% sure I'm getting one of these this month........I'm in love with the 33!

  • Clint Thompson

Good question Craig.  I have a single bladed trapper with pocket clip in a gray bone.  Hey research this issue and report back to us?  I would like to know my self.

My EDC is the same knife with the yellow handles.  One thing I learned about the CV steel is it will turn black if you stick it in a fresh lemon.  LOL!  My regular stainless steel has no problem with lemons.  However, this just makes my trapper that much more cooler.

  • Gerald Hines

Clint you can put a patina on you CV knives with vinegar and it will retard most other corrosion. I have done this on several of my EDC's with CV and it surely helps. Put the blades in vinegar for a couple of hours then wash with dish washing soap and rinse and dry. Looks pretty good too.

  • Clint Thompson

    Gerald...

Thanks for the info.  Yes I know about the vinegar which I use for the EDC carbon steel knives.  But this EDC is on a long term usage test for an up coming article.  I can polish the black off of the blade as it never corroded the CV.  I am looking for just every day use to see how this knife and steel does.  Again, thanks for your suggestion.

    A question -

    Can anyone show me the differences between;

    Orange Blaze Bone

    Cayene

    Orange Peel

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

I'll probably end up getting something in each one anyway, but I was just wondering if there' much difference between the three colors. It's hard to tell from some of the pictures I've found doing a google.

    Got Hairy bones?

    I like this too.........

  • Lee Smith

Latest addition to my case knives.

  • Billy Oneale

That's nice, Lee. That's one of my favorite patterns.
  • Tobias Gibson

Is that the one that has an elephant etch on one side and sunfish on the other?  One very nice knife!

  • Lee Smith

Just the elephant. I have another one but it has Crandall on it. I was wanting an older one. Now I want a case boot knife. lol

  • Max McGruder

    Lee, that is a Beauty!!

Craig, yes I have two Hairy Bones!

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

    Nice one Lee!

That looks really nice Max, thanks. I think I'm going to get one tonight......the small stockman.

  • Kim R

I love getting on here and reading everything you all have to say.  And to see pictures of all the great knives!  Just love it.

    Craig Henry

Well I ordered a Hairy Bone 6333. And three other 6333s. And two 6344s. And two 63032s. I guess I'm getting to be a Case collector. LOL! With a sub collection of Stockmans?

  • Max McGruder

Craig you don't mess around when you buy an sure like getting most out if shipping.
Can't wait to see all this bounty.

    Craig Henry

Yes Max, I'm going crazy in my old fart days. Well, you know I was away from serious collecting for a number of years. I think I went into withdrawal. And since I took early retirement and the kids are grown and gone, I'm back with a vengeance. Though my money trees are bare and have bugs.

Can't go wrong with Stag! Those are all some lookers!

Or is this an April Fools joke? HaHa

    Question:

Why would this 1980 Smooth Rose bone Mini Coke Bottle have a perfect Patina on the Main blade if Case has been using Stainless steel since the 60's?

Tang stamps read: CaseXX / 10 dots / USA - Main blade, 62251/2 / SR Pen blade.
