I'll probably end up getting something in each one anyway, but I was just wondering if there' much difference between the three colors. It's hard to tell from some of the pictures I've found doing a google.
Well I ordered a Hairy Bone 6333. And three other 6333s. And two 6344s. And two 63032s. I guess I'm getting to be a Case collector. LOL! With a sub collection of Stockmans?
Yes Max, I'm going crazy in my old fart days. Well, you know I was away from serious collecting for a number of years. I think I went into withdrawal. And since I took early retirement and the kids are grown and gone, I'm back with a vengeance. Though my money trees are bare and have bugs.
I thought some of them were carbon steel. I know my brother-in-law carried a Case pen knife in the smooth red bone in the early 80's and it was CV. Shouldn't it have "SS" on it? I've seen listings on the net that say CV too. I had a 6233 in the smooth red bone, but it had glaze finished stainless blades.
"Old Case Knife "Smooth Red Appaloosa Bone Jack". Beautiful smooth red Appaloosa bone handles. High polished chrome vanadium clip point and pen blades. Nickel silver bolsters. Brass liners and handle pins. Tang stamped "CASE XX USA". Cute little pocket knife by CASE."
Brad, "SR" stands for "Satin Rose" - Case's name. From what I can remember and what I see around and about the internet, I'd say yours is CV. I believe Case always has "SS" when it's stainless.
Also just found this........
SR62027 Small Jack SR6220 Peanut SR6225-1/2 Coke Bottle SR6244 Jack SR6347-1/2 Stockman
"The above knives were made from 1979-1981 with chrome vanadium (CV) blade steel, and with no shields in the handles. Then in late 1981 and into 1982 Case changed the blade steel to stainless steel (SS) with a glazed finish, and with shields."
On second thought. I don't want to see it Charles. I'm going to covet thy neighbors knife.
I've wanted one of those Shadow Bones ever since I saw them. And from what I read, people really liked them. I wish Case would do some more. Shoot, they could do a some every year using differend colors and different jigging etc.
I'm embarrassed to say it. But......I got another knife in. Just one. Another Stockman. A Black Bone 63032. BUT, it's rather interesting. Either because how bone takes stain differently, OR, something strange happens to the black stain, I've seen some of these on the internet that are colored anywhere from pitch black to TAN!! I got one in between. I'll try to get pictures in just a bit.

Question:
Why would this 1980 Smooth Rose bone Mini Coke Bottle have a perfect Patina on the Main blade if Case has been using Stainless steel since the 60's?
Tang stamps read: CaseXX / 10 dots / USA - Main blade, 62251/2 / SR Pen blade.

About the Shadow Bones I found this;
Due to the difficulty in manufacturing these knives without bolsters, the smaller patterns were chosen.
Shirley @ Case
I didn't realize they were difficult to manufacture. I guess we won't see any more?
