Actually I placed a $5 bid on it.  (Yes, I already kenw it was a counterfeit). My goal was to take it out of circulation.  I also contacted the seller and told him it was a counterfeit.  My goal was to add it to my Scout knife collection as an "oddity".  Unfortunately I was out bid and I have no intention on spending more for a fake.  If you want it is still up for bids:

I'm not interested in spending $7.00  +$3.95 for shipping on a fake Case.

So sad that stuff goes on. Over the years it has turned away more than one collector from collecting.

  • Jean-François

I must say that I greatly appreciate this seller. Bill ("Sportscolb"; "Dusty Duck") is a member of IKC and I know he is perfectly honest; he tries to give descriptions as accurate as possible, and he deserves his 100% positive feedback.

  • Tobias Gibson

As I said, he was upfront in his description.  He even asked if i wanted to retract my bid when I contacted him.  I told him I was bidding with my eye-wide open I was more concerned with him getting negative feedback if someone who was too stupid to read his description won the bid decided to give negative feedback.  I too have bought from him on several occasions and have always been happy.  He is one of the good ones!  So you now have two thumbs up for the seller.

To be clear.....my "So sad that stuff goes on." comment wasn't in reference to an honest seller, but about counterfeiters. I despise counterfeiters.

Got my new Case Sod Buster! I gotta say, from what I can remember, comparing it to my old one (which I don't have anymore) I had from around 1976-77, this one seems just as good, if not better!

No blade play. Blade is pretty centered, thought that's not a big no-no with me as long as it's not hitting the liner. But this time around the blade is razor sharp out of the box! No touch up needed!  I feel like a whole man again.............

  • Tobias Gibson

I'm waiting on the Amber jigged bone from Case.

I know this is blasphemy but I kind of prefer the locking Soddy from Rough Rider to the Case.  sure wish Case would come out with a locking one again.  (running for cover)

That's a nice one Toby, but, I think I'll stick to my good buddy the Case Sod Buster Jr ;)

Actually, I generally prefer a knife without a lock. Plus the back spring on this Case Sod Buster Jr is strong enough I think I'd really have to abuse it for it to close on me.

Also, there's just something about a Case Sod Buster. Maybe because it was my first true Case love?

Now that I have it it's like old home week.....I can't stop playing with it!

    Speaking of 5-blade Sowbellys................

  • Tobias Gibson

My only Case Sodbuster (also a Soddy Jr.)  It was rescued from a box of junk knives.  When I found it, the blade was almost frozen shut with rust.   Coon P and elbow grease brought it back to life.  Appears to be an old 6 dot.  The other knife is yellow comp USA Schrade middleman stockman.  Both are "rescue knives" but still have another generation of life as EDCs.

  • Clint Thompson

    Tobias...

The Sodbuster will only close on you if you get to prying around with it.  As we all know pocket knives are not made for prying.  If you open a can of beans it could close as well if you are not careful.  Yes you an do this and it will not hurt this knife.  Cardboard will dull the blade faster.  I explained this to Eddie the Navy Seal who loves the Pro-Tech autos.  Pro-Tech sells the TR3 to the Navy and in particular the Navy Seals.  Eddie took his small Pro-Tech Don Tuxedo and tried to "Pop" (his word) something off.  He snapped the point right off.  I gave him mine (I miss my Tuxedo) to replace it.  It is the least I could do for what Eddie has had to endure for the last 13 years as a Seal.  Our first article should be out the first of March.

  • Clint Thompson

    Tobias...

I too like to rescue old quality knives.  It is fun to bring them back from the brink.  My last Case I rescued is a double bladed hunter.  It was in some kind of bad shape.  I soaked it and had to use the moto-tool to make it right.  I love this old knife.

  • Tobias Gibson

Clint, for the record, I rarely use knives as pry bars. (that's what screwdrivers are for!)  However, i have more than one knife try to fold up on me when I've needed to stab or poke something.  That is where the lock blades come in handy.   Again, right tool for the right job.  I can see why people love the soddy.  Its just a good all around single blade knife.

  • Billy Oneale

Craig, as long as you have been around knives, I just assumed you were already a member. Congrats for joining. I finally decided to be a lifetime member a couple of years ago. I got tired of having to remember to pay my dues evert year.

Thanks for the Welcome to the CCC! Don't know why I never joined when they first started it. Except in those years I was sooo involved in Schrade knives. And then in later years......I have no idea.

Yeah I guess a lifetime membership would be better. Maybe next year.

  • Max McGruder

I was a Regular Member for the first year and when it came time to renew I just did the upgrade to Life Member. It just makes it easier for me, plus when it comes time to buy Annual Club Knives Life members can buy all three or any of the three or Regular can buy Regular and Life member can get his Lifer Number put on for the serial number, and don't forget the secret handshake!

Oh great, I have to remember a secret handshake. I can barely remember where the bathroom is. Do they offer Case tattoos? LOL!
