Who likes the TrapperLock? I like it except for the thumb stud. I wish they kept it old timey and didn't add it. But that's just me. Other wise I like it.

For years I have been using a Jon-E-Warmer during deer season.  I picked up a Zippo hand warmer a couple years ago, and it works great!  The Jon-E-Warmer still works well, too.  The punk or solid fuel warmers, when they work, do a good job as well, but sometimes the fuel sticks go out.

I never had a hand warmer! Don't remember being that cold when we went out hunting. But that was back in the old days when I was indestructible. LOL!

Believe it or not, my funds are limited. I just make sure I do business with dealers that have good prices. And we don't take fancy vacations, AND we don't have a cell phone plan!! Cass just has one of those TracFone cell phones for emergencies.....more money for knives!

Won't work getting your SS switched Howard, I have secret dealers I do business with....meet them in the alley at 3AM! LOL!

I bought a trapperlock a while back with a pocketclip. The guy I got it from had dropped it and broke the thumbstud off. I called case and they sent me a new one. I sold it to a guy at work and he dropped it and broke it off again. He sent the knife back to case. Seems to me like they might have a problem there.

I'd rather not have the thumb stud, but I guess a lot of guys like it. I'll probably get one sooner or later anywho.

It's probably just screwed on, and the way it sticks out, I'd say it would break off pretty easy if dropped and it landed on the thumb stud.

Seeing the two together, I think I like the lines of the Blackhorn better than the Caliber, but both are nice, and you should get plenty of work done with either one.

I like these big Panama Trappers. Anyone have one?

I've had my eye on that barnboard PT for a while now.  The only thing holding me back is that I would never use it. 

That doesn't mean that you should refrain Craig...

I haven't been happier collecting knives since I collected Schrades back in the 1980's! I LOVE my Case knives. GO CASE!!

I think the laser engraved Duck feathers is cool on this one!

Now that is a nice looking Trapper.  The DU Canoe with the feather jug (that you posted on page 15 of this blog) is more elegant but, I won't quibble.

I know I'm going to get a Tiny Trapper in the Bermuda Green, so I might get the 54 in it too. 

SOME way, SOME how, I have to figure how I can fit two of these in my budget one month. Why two? One for the pocket and one........

Agreed, Craig - good article.  It is perhaps a good thing that I don't collect Trappers.

1.  The old ones are way too expensive for my taste, so I could only afford the dime-a-dozen new ones.  For a Grand, I would be looking for a fixed blade with about a 6" blade, a minimum of 3/16" thick, and "exotic" steel. Plus, I'd want to use it, and although a Tested XX trapper I might find would almost certainly be used - and expensive, I would be uncomfortable using it.

2.  The article was confusing. 

I get that the early Trappers had/have short rear bolsters, and I get the closed "C", but in that last picture with the three trappers I can't tell the top two apart.

One reason I'd never get into the old Case knives, besides cost, it would take too much studying! LOL!

The deed is done. I'm broke again.....until next month.......unless the Government decides to take all I have by then.
