Agreed, Craig - good article. It is perhaps a good thing that I don't collect Trappers.
1. The old ones are way too expensive for my taste, so I could only afford the dime-a-dozen new ones. For a Grand, I would be looking for a fixed blade with about a 6" blade, a minimum of 3/16" thick, and "exotic" steel. Plus, I'd want to use it, and although a Tested XX trapper I might find would almost certainly be used - and expensive, I would be uncomfortable using it.
2. The article was confusing.
I get that the early Trappers had/have short rear bolsters, and I get the closed "C", but in that last picture with the three trappers I can't tell the top two apart.
Been in a little bit of a rut since I got out of the hospital. Today I decided to get out of it and made a stop on the way home for a new edc.So I bought 2. Love the buffalo horn. It makes me growl just like the stag does.
I'm even back to work started Monday. I'm moving a little slower but the guys I work with are helping me with the heavy stuff. Weekend after next we are heading back to Missouri for the celebration in the Ozarks. Really looking forward to meeting Tony Bose.
Brand new from Case - Blue Lagoon Jigged Bone - Due in November, BUT, some patterns are hitting dealers shelves early.......like NOW! I'm getting the Trapper.

One reason I'd never get into the old Case knives, besides cost, it would take too much studying! LOL!

Craig, you come up with some of the most beautiful handles on those trappers. "Ginger Ale Bone" - now I have something else to look for.

These are fairly new for Case. Haven't been out too long. The Ginger Ale isn't real flashy, but I think it's a nice subdued golden brown.

Originally I was drawn to the barehead models, but I've found the capped models to feel better overall in my hand.
I had a red bone Gent, but traded it away. Gotta have a smaller secondary on my EDC knives.

I'm carrying my Tiny Trapper in my coin pocket, so the Gent will be for bigger blade jobs.
Now you have me thinking about barehead vs non-barehead more. Hmmm.......
