Have you guys seen "Shar's Scrimshaw"? - http://www.ivoryscrimshaw.com/3.html  He does all brands of knives, but, it seems his main brand of knife to work on is RR! I'd love to have a RR Rigger knife with the U.S.S Constitution scrimshaw on it! Some years ago we went all over Old Ironsides. Guys were shorter back in those days...us 6' guys kept hitting our heads! LOL!

Getting ready to put in a big RR Trapper order in the coming week or so. I'm getting really turned on with the "Trapper Series" and that Bark Bone, besides other RR Trappers. Man, that  "Baby Bullet" RR1030 is kinda hard to find now, but I did find one dealer that still has it....think I might get it.

I always carry at least two knives, and my main knife is usually a small one....I like small knives.  Lately I've been carrying a RR (of course) Peanut RR495 along with a RR Utility/Camp knife RR533 in a sheath. But I've been looking at that Tiny Trapper RR1028 in the Bark Bone. I think it would be a good little EDC in place of my Peanut! I'm getting one!

  • Tobias Gibson

Funny you should mention the Scout knife.  (I've got the amber bone and am waiting for the Red bone to arrive.  I've been carrying the amber bone for many months now.  As a collector of camp/scout knives, I've got quite a few of them to compare the RR to.  Right now I'm finishing up the review on the lock-back canoe whittlers.  Next in line is the scout knives.  I collect scout knives as a general rule and have quite a few of them.  I'll be comparing the RR  to the old Camillus demo knife, old and new Boy Scout knives, a Swiss Army knife with similar blades and my Case Scout jr..  I think it should prove interesting.  I'll let you know when it is done.
  • Jan Carter

Tobias, please be sure to share with us when you finish a review.  I enjoy them

Sure is Toby! Pretty little thing, ain't it? But, it might be replaced soon.....by a small/tiny RR Trapper.

Just finished the review of the Locking Canoe Whittler. (see Discussion Forum.)

or view  it at Rough Rider Reviews - ( blindkat.hegewisch.net/RRR/ )

Moving on to my next Review about the Rough Rider Scout knife.

Here is a sneak-peek at what you'll see:In this review, the humble Rough Rider will be up against  Boy Scout Knives, both modern and vintage, the Victorinox Pioneer and the Camillus Demo Knife.

Did someone say Case?  The RR Scout is patterned after the Case 6445 pattern Scout knife. I don't have $150 to buy the discontinued knife so my $80 Scout Jr. will need to be its stand in.

Well, I just uploaded some more of my Rough Riders into my RR photo album on my page. I may get them all on there by  the end of this year.
  • Tobias Gibson

Billy, Temptation may get the better of me because of all those wonderful pictures.  I really try to just collect specific patterns but so many knives, so many pretty colors, styles, handle material for so little money. Very hard to resist!  Thanks for sharing. Not to exercise a little will power and not go to bed instead of eBay or SMKW.
  • Billy Oneale

it's hard to resist 8 or 9 good $10.00 to $12.00 knives when you have an extra $100.00.

Thanks for the heads up Billy. I go and look at your RR photos pretty regular.

I've been trying not to get any lockback knives lately, but, I think I need  one of those swing guards in tobacco bone......or amber bone.......or both.

    It's like a disease.

  • Billy Oneale

    More pics loaded tonight.

I don't want them all, but I want to get at least one of those Brian Yellowhorse knives. Hmmm....maybe the Trapper.
  • Jan Carter

I think I may need the whole Tobacco bone line for my son.  Of course I would find it hard to give them away so maybe I need a couple of each.  Very nice collection Billy
  • Billy Oneale

    Thank you, Jan.
  • Tobias Gibson

So far, I've seen congress and trapper.  I've asked RR on Facebook for more details.
  • Tobias Gibson

While. i like the bolsters, I'm hoping to see something out of the ordinary, pattern wise.  So far it is looking like the same standard patterns.  Hopefully they'll throw me a bone, like a large toothpick, marlin spike, or an electrician or something.
  • Jan Carter

Good find on the pics Ivars, thanks.  I like the Rat
  • Billy Oneale

    Maybe an Elephant toenail.

  • Billy Oneale

It seems like Big Mike is able to get some of the RR before SMKW sells them. I noticed Ivars web address for the pics was from Saturday night knife and gun show. I usually watch that on the computer since I am On direct tv.

The place I saw the good photos of the Trapper and Congress is KY-Knives on ebay. He had the Armor Hide knives before anyone else too.

  • Tobias Gibson

I've dealt with this guy quite a bit.  Some people can't stand him but he has always done alright by me.  His names is Gary Yokom.   He only ships things twice a week.

He probably took some flack because he distributes primarily knives made in China.  He was somehow affilliasted with the three guys who were involved with the U.S.Classic brands.   His own brand is "Raging Bull"  which is only sold at his eBay Store.  All werre made in the same factory as RRs

The easiest way to see everything he sells is by typing "zix"  in the eBay search box.  Outside of SMKW, he often has the cheapest "Buy It Now" prices for Rough Riders on eBay.

And he does seem to get the RRs before SMKW.   Beats me how he does it.

  • Jan Carter

LOL on the special photos.  We are not old busy bodies, we are active in uot hobbies...OK, we are old busybodies

Just got my tiny/small/baby Trappers. Ok, I've got a new small knife for EDC....if I can only decide which I like better; RR1028 Tiny Trapper with Bark Bone, RR858 Baby Barehead Trapper, or RR765 Baby Trapper (Copperhead Trapper) amber jigged bone.  Deffinitley top grade pocket jewelry one and all!
  • Tobias Gibson

How big are these when closed?

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

Oops, sorry, I guess I should have given more info!

All three are 2 1/2" closed. BUT, fit the hand great!

    Craig Henry

Does anyone have one of these? I really like the looks of it. I want someone to twist my arm to get it......it won't take much twisting. LOL!

  • Billy Oneale

No, but I wouldn't mind having one.

So many knives, so little money.
  • Tobias Gibson

I too have thought about it but you can only have so many Bowies. (or can you ?)

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

Yeah, they're a little hard to display and/or store. I guess I could hang all of them around my belt.....it'll impress the Mailman.

  • Featured

    Craig Henry

Ok then, anyone have one or both of these?

  • Jan Carter

I dont know Craig but it appears to me that you would need all three of these.  Doesn't seem anyone else has them yet. You know we need someone to do a review and it should be you because Tobias did the last few.  I think it's your turn

     Have I twisted enough yet?

  • Tobias Gibson

As a Collector's Club what would we do?  Perhaps we need to become a fan club.  Again to what purpose.  My review page is designed to promote the product.  I suppose this group is here for the same purpose.  As a fan or collectors club we would need to have a purpose, most likely something to do with the promotion of the product.  Would we also look at some type of non-for profit work that we would support to make it worth while to SMKW to officially charter such efforts.
  • Tobias Gibson

Jan, just so you know, my next review is going to be on the Rough Rider Bartenders.  That will be followed by the Ulu skinner and possibly the Coal Miner knives.

    Yeah, that's a good deal!

Also, the $50 worth of RR to  get a $10 gift card, $100 worth of RR to get a $20 gift card, is good through 12-31-11. I took advantage of the $50/gift card deal a couple of weeks ago. It was so good I think I'll have seconds.
