Many people collected Schrade knives over the years. Almost everyone had to have a Schrade. Much has changed, but they still make Schrade Knives and now they are coming out with new steels and new handle materials.
So old fan or new collector, Lets talk about Schrade!

Just my opinion, but either of those would be nice to have at the "Buy It Now" price if you're looking for a nice EDC, or even to clean up for display. Blades are full on both, the brass could use a little touching up on both and the serialized one has some pitting on the bolster (probably stored in the leather sheath for a long time), but if the serial number is worth the extra money to the buyer then go for it. If not, $35 is a very fair price for a USA made Schrade lockback.

Thanks for the help everyone. This is what makes this site great. Brad , I bought the 34.99 one, thanks for the link. I am curious about your comparison to the Buck 110 which I think is a heavy built lockblade. I cannot wait to compare the two. Thanks again everybody!

Glad I could help Ricky. You will be able to tell the weight once you have them both in your hands.

Brad, how do you store your lockblades ? The Buck 110 and I am sure the LB7 are too big for a normal knife roll. I would not think that you keep them in their shealths.

LB4 is by far the rarest since not many were made! If you can find one, expect to pay dearly for it. I have .all of these except the LB9 which is basically the LB8 with a gut hook.
I hope this helps and good luck on your hunt to complete the LB series.

Ricky,
Sorry for the long awaited response.
I do keep them in the knife roll that is my page's wallpaper. Of course the knife roll is 16" wide x 72" long. It is very heavy.

Thanks for the list Tom.

I can't call myself a Schrade collector because I own exactly one. I recently purchased one of the new Schrade SCHF 37's and wow this thing is a beauty especially for the price. It did not come perfect, the blade sharpened a little off-center, but that could be fixed. Great knife for the price and compares nicely to my Ka-Bar Becker BK-7.

Hi all, I'm a newbie on the boards, so please be kind! My uncle recently passed away, and my aunt wants to rid herself of my uncle's collection of knives. I plan on keeping a few, primarily because I know my uncle used them and loved them, but the rest I'll probably put on ebay.
So I have questions about a Schrade USA Uncle Henry LB8 knife. And I'll do my best to successfully post photos!
It has a serial number, but I can't seem to find online what this serial number identifies. Also, the blade itself lacks the phrase "Uncle Henry" inscription. Is this normal? Any guidance is appreciated!

Britney,
Uncle Henry is a part of Schrade, or was when this was made. The LB stands for LockBack click here to see an example with some explaination

Have a question. Found someone locally with a NIB Schrade Lance, made for Wards back in the 80s, want to make an offer, but nowhere online do I see any value for it. I do see a couple people wanting one, and a couple saying they found one, but no one mentions a price. Anyone know?

Compared to many knife collectors I'm relatively new to the game. I've been collecting Schrades for about 6 years. IKC has enlightened me to the fact that there are other knives than Schrade, good American made knives. What is very disappointing to me, is that I find better fit and finish in 30 year old Schrades than I am encountering in GEC and Queen. I recently paid nearly $100 for a newly manufactured knife that would have barely been qualified as a factory second by Schrades standards. My money was refunded, but this is the third knife I've returned due to quality issues out of eight purchases. Maybe I'm too old and too picky. When I was growing up, I was taught "if you have enough time to go back and fix something, you had enough time to do it right to start with". Perhaps this is a lesson that should be revisited.

a friend showed me a knife , guess it looks kind of like a muskrat, marked s c 4
sm2011 Stewart A Taylor & sons I did not measure it , however ,with the sharp point unfolded
it could be a foot and 4 inches, mother of pearl like handles and marked holiday greetings snowflake logo on the grip says old timer . never seen anything quit like it was it a presentation piece ? it certainly is not a joke .

Cheryl,
Schrade went bankrupt in 2004, that was when Taylor acquired the rights to the Schrade name. Most of the Schrades since then are made in China and have limited collector value. GEC has made a few knives for Taylor and I would suppose other U.S. manufacturers as well. If it didn't have U.S.A on the tang it would be safe to assume it was of foreign production.

I found the knife on Ebay and the main blade had been tipped. I also was worried about displaying it with other knives because of the celluloid handles. I have since learned they may have not been that type of celluloid. I sent it to Herman Williams who re-profiled the blade'''he said that it was short by about 1/32", cleaned the knife, buffed the dings out of the bolsters and replaced the handles with bone he had from the Schrade Factory. He used the machine built in the Schrade machine shop to do the jigging. So while the knife is no longer original...it's not far off.

Andy,
This appears to have been a good choice. The handle is sweet but tell me about the blades? There appear to be full, are those spots or pits? Are you going to clean it?

I was thinking spots at first but they do have some texture to them. I had considered getting ahold of some fine emery cloth and trying to knock it down just a bit. I've already cleaned them with flitz and renwax. If someone has pointers on cleaning them up a bit I'm open for ideas please. The blades appear to have never been sharpened or used. The handles are just dreamy...and the bolsters shined up quite well but one end had a bit of scuff on it that you cant see unless you're paying close attention to it.

The first 227UH knives with the two blades and the first 127UH knives with one blade did NOT have U.S.A. in the tang stamp. Here are examples. The second picture doesn't show the complete tang stamp properly because of my poor scan, but I assure you these knives are early authentic and there is NO U.S.A. All is proper and good. This would put the knife in the 1946-1973 tang stamp
