For all of you that are coming to our open house this weekend we will be raffling off a prototype of our newest knife, the toothpick. Tickets will be $2.00 each and the drawing will be held at the end of the open house on Saturday. You need not be present to win, we will ship you the knife and all the money collected (100%) will be donated to the Make A Wish Foundation.
Wanted to let everyone know, Roger and I made it back from Titusville. We had a qreat time at the Great Eastern Cutlery open house. They not only produce GREAT knives, but the folks at GEC are great also, Bill, Ken, Ryan,Chris and Pat are real nice folks. They permitted us to video our tour of the factory, I've sent it to Scott and he's going to post it on here if it turned out.
Hey Scott
I posted pic's of the knives we got. The event knife was a sleeveboard in Abalone with matching key holder. There were 30 available, 10 each day. They were serialized, Roger got #2 and mine was #3. The blade is itched with "Great Eastern Cutlery Annual Knife Rendezous". Got to see the new Toothpick in River Blue Jigged Bone. I hope the video turned out and you can get it on here.
Open House video update: Ken sent me the tape with the video on it. I'm having to learn some new tricks to convert an analog video to digital, so I can then edit it. I won't bore you GE fans with the details, other than to say, I think I found a piece of equipment that will work and just clicked the buy it with "One Click" on Amazon. I hope this one works. Hopefully, when the UPS man comes later this week, I'll be able to update again that this one works, the last thing I bought to do it didn't. So, stay tuned. Don't worry bout me and all these investments, I'll just send the bill to Ryan at GE :)
I got the new equipment in only to find out it ain't the equipment that's the problem, it's the tape (the recording is just too pixilated to work). Sorry folks we all tried. Thanks Ken for giving this a hearty go. I can pull the audio off, but don't figure anyone will want to "listen" to an Open House :)
hey this is michael sabol and yes i am the same person as the other michael sabol..i had to make a new account because when i went to sign in it wouldn't take my email address i'm guessing i typed it wrong the first time...so don't wonder why there are two michael sabols because there is only 1...thanks
Hey Guys, Am I the only one that thinks that the new handle on the new Northfield Toothpick, Jigged Blood Red bone is nice enough to be a standard on more types of frames, like the #23 #73 and #54. It might even like great in a yellow & black, green & black or blue?
I admit it, I am a Sucker for Horn & Stag in the Jumbo Bullet Type Frame or Mountain Man Lockback, I can't resist bidding. I couldn't let this one go for less than what I thought was a good Deal on the one I bought from Doc's knives so I bought it on ebay.
Here is a GEC that was never released for sale to the public. This knife was given to me by Ken Daniels (owner of GEC). He told me that they had problems with the handle material cracking at the pins..so after about 20 they decided not to make any more. As you can see by the stains on the blades this is a knife that I carry and use. I had to give him my word that I would use it and not resell it. I always make sure I have this knife in my pocket when I go to the NKCA shows just to show Ken that I still have it and I'm using it.
Toenail and Sunfish seem to be used interchangeably with some people. Is there a difference between the two ? Is the sunfish a symmetrical pattern and the toenail larger at one end than the other?
This melon-sampler whittler just came in the mail, thanks to CollectorKnives.net, and all I can say is WOW! The photos just did not prepare me for the actual in-hand experiance. I tried to show the unusual proportions compared to a big model 23 trapper. This one is definately a keeper!
The new release page on greateasterncutlery.net is showing a new 3" sleeveboard with a wharncliffe main blade and a carpenter scribe small blade! I was just thinking how I liked patterns that were a little different (some might say oddball) and this one will be hard to resist.
Had a chance to see Ryan and Ken Daniels at the NKCA Show in Dalton, along with Ken Mundhenk (and the infamous Roger Cunningham). The Daniels are excited about GEC and said their knives are selling in total the minute they are made. This company is on a roll and produces high quality knives.
Last weekend Roger Cunningham and myself attended the NKCA Show in Dalton,GA. We had the pleasure of meeting Gary Kennedy and Jan Carter iKC members also we got to see Ken,Ryan and Courtney Daniels from Great Eastern Cutlery. Had dinner with the one and only Scott King and Mark Zalesky, Editor of Knife World. Mark wanted to eat at the famous oyster bar in Dalton but he had to settle for the "Depot" which was great. We had a great time, seen alot of knives and meet alot of great folks. I'm posting a pic of Gary Kennedy hard at work peddling his knives. (nice looking ones at that)
Ken It was a pleasure to meet you and Roger at the Dalton Show . That's what makes a show so good you get to meet people and see knives at one place I know the internet is a place to see knives and meet other collectors but there is still nothing to equal to good knife show . PS. the Depot was a good choose
GEC is DONATING the Dogleg Prototype For the "Wounded Warrior Project" Auction Knife!!!

I'm incredibly pleased to announce that the Wounded Warrior Project auction knife is going to be the Dogleg Prototype.
About a week ago I talked to Chris at Great Eastern and told her I was going to have another auction for the Wounded Warrior Project. I wasn't asking for a 'freebie', but only suggestions for a nice auction knife. After a little discussion, Chris suggested she talk to Ken and see if it'd be possible to get a prototype to auction off. When she called back and said it was a 'go', I was thrilled. When I found out that Great Eastern was DONATING the Dogleg Prototype, I was pleased beyond words. I would have been happy just to have had the opportunity to buy it and put it up for auction but this is really a generous gesture.
The details aren't complete yet, but at this point it appears the Prototype will most likely be an acrylic, color to be determined. The Proto will be the only knife produced with the Prototype etch and the first one off the line. A fantastic collectible that a most of us never get a shot at and the money raised will be going for a great cause.
For now, stay tuned for more details. Once I'm sure what the handle material will be, I'll post the info. Also, I'll try to get photos as soon as the knife is made. Pass the word to your friends and fellow collectors. Chat it up on the boards and make sure everyone knows what kind of folks are operating and working at GEC!!! There will be a few more items included with the knife and I'm looking at opening the bidding around Mid-April and running into May.
100% of the proceeds are donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. Visit their website at: www.woundedwarriorproject.org
Thanks Chris, Ken, Bill and everyone else at Great Eastern Cutlery. You're truly a class act!!!
