Ever since I got my first slipjoint (a Queen Gunstock) I've got a weakness for Gunstock patterns. This one might tempt me too much....

From what I read around and about the net, Outlaws are selling at a pretty good clip. With many saying it's going to be hard not getting more than one!

I don't know why, but it just looks "Old West" to me. 

(Maybe it's the pictures GEC has in the background on their site? LOL!)

Anybody within driving distance should try to come to the National Hunting and Fishing Days Celebration at Stonewall Jackson State Park in Roanoke, West Virginia this weekend. Two days of Demonstrations, Displays and Events on Hunting,Fishing and just about any type of Outdoor Activity. There will also be some Vendors,including myself with about 300 Great Eastern pocket knives.

A beautiful weekend for a ride through the Hills of West Virginia. Good Food,Good People and Great Entertainment.

QUESTION:

I'm just curious about the acrylic scales on that "Nifebrite" Bullnose. Since I have no experience with that handle material, my concern is that it might be like some of those old celluloid scales that would shrink as they aged and then start pulling away from the bolsters creating gaps. Not to mention the gas they would emit and destroy the steel around 'em.

Do any of you have experience with acrylic scales, or feel qualified to comment?

Anyone?

Acrylic is stable, celluloid is not. The acrylic GEC uses is in no way similiar to celluloid scales used in the past.

I'm even more curious about the Vaquero, Jan! Just that name conjures images of something bold and daring!

Doesnt Coldsteel does a Vaquero series of fixed blades?

They're folders, Jan. And they have what Cold Steel calls an "S Curved" clip point blade.

In my personal opinion the Cold Steel Vaquero knife is a decent knife but over priced and with not much EDC functionality as they are hard to sharpen.  We all know Vaquero in Spanish means Cowboy so this knife would be good for cutting rope, turning bulls into steers and cutting off a stake cooked over an open fire pit.

Well here is hoping it is a stockman then LOL

yeppers! i got that email late last night, notifying me that the orange bulllnose was on it's way, and i just could not restrain my excitement! and, heck -- i'm still excited today! thanks, everyone, for indulging my jubilation. i promise to post some pics just as soon as it arrives.

I think you've been rather well controlled Ron. At least you didn't tear the place up and throw chairs through the windows. I just wish you'd stop all the constant hugging....it's starting to feel creepy.

GEC Buffalo Horn...stabilized?  I say yes.  I dont know of any material GEC uses that is not stabilized.

I'm sure I don't need to tell you how nice these Great Eastern knives are. This lil' guy is certainly no exception. Especially in the bang for your buck department. It's just a really nice little knife. I say it's little, but that's simply because I have been carrying and using a much larger Spyderco Paramilitary 2 for so long. Most traditional knives by comparison are significantly smaller than their tactical counterparts. Ergo, the Bullnose feels little to me.

I am so happy with it! And I, too, am also curious to see how the O1 fares over time? What I know thus far is that the blade was expertly sharpened. I viewed it under a 10X Triplet Loupe and the grind was absolutely dead-on perfect on both sides. I gave it a few swipes on one of my strops and it is now razor sharp. I will be using it daily to see just how well that edge holds up. I'll keep ya posted.

I'm curious too as to how easy it is to sharpen 01. I know my GEC 1095 holds a good edge and it's REAL easy to get a razor sharp edge!

Hey guys, while I was talking to Chris last night I asked her if the glow in the dark one white and she said no.  Faint green tint even when it is not glowing

O1 is just as easy to sharpen as 1095 and will hold and edge longer...I've been using O1 knives in the outdoors for the past 5 years and have been very happy...
