In lieu of a lanyard tube/hole I am really attracted to knives with a bail on them. Like your Conductors, for instance. However, I have had a couple of instances where the bail got in the path of my blade snapping closed and the ensuing chips to those edges were enough to bring tears to my eyes. Granted, I wasn't paying attention on those occasions when it did happen. But it was enough to leave me shell shocked and fearful to own any more knives that have bails that could possibly end up being guillotined at the expense of a nice edge.

Allowing for the fact that I am probably just a dork (that's no doubt a given), have you or anyone else had that happen? Accidentally let the blade snap right on top of a bail and ruin an edge?

I would simply make me cry 

I did snap my blade on the bail one time but it didn't harm the blade or the bail. It was my Imperial Boy Scout knife with the bone handles.  I was 9 years old at the time.  Even though the blade and bail were not harmed it made an impression on me so I tied a leather thong on the bail which hung down about four inches. This was the reminder I needed to keep the dang bail our of the way.

I did it twice on a Wenger alox Standard Issue Soldier knife. The second time was the charm -- It looked like a shark took a bite out of the edge! I had to completely re-shape and re-profile the blade using my diamond Sharpmaker rods. I had to remove a whole lot of steel before that mistake was corrected. That's not the only thing that got removed, though -- I also removed the bail from that knife! I wasn't about to chance ruining that edge again.

I like your idea of hanging a lanyard from the bail to serve as a reminder. I may have to do that if I ever get myself another knife with a bail. Thanks for that tip, Clint!

I know what you mean Clint. I like the orange, and the whitish (glow in the dark) handles, but for that all business-go work on the farm look, black is hard to beat. Or bone. LOL!
