a bit disappointed right now:-( got myself a new ambitoius and went to swap around the clip, and ALL 3 screws stripped(is that the word i am looking for) could understand one of them doing it, but all 3, WTF. tip down sucks, gonna try getting the clip of atleast
anyone know which screw drivers i should get for furher reference on my other spydercos, messing up an ambitious is bad enough, dont wanna mess up my delica or native that i plan on getting? torx/hex? size?
thats a good idea, i´ll do that if i cant get them out myself. already emailed spyderco about the screws, hopefully they´ll send me new screws. thanks for all the replys guys
I have had similar problems on my tenacious. I got all the 4 model and have observed that the china factory is using some kind lock-tight or glue (not on all models) I did Heat up the screw and than no problem with the removal next time please keep in mind this procedure when you are handling China made knives and that should do the trick.
Spyderco is truely a excelent company. Two weaks ago a id requested a spyderco catalog from their website. I did know that I''m no US citizen and probabley they send those out just to US addresses because it was free of charge I did not expected to receive one. Ussualy I do for myself a large printout every year but gues what the other day I have had mail from spyderco and in the evelope there was a 8 inch version of the 2012 spyderco catalog I do not know if they have also a biger version but i was really happy. Spyderco did have gone the extra mile to send it arround the world even consifering I'm no dealer and for those little things I'm really greatfull. Those people at spyderco do care also for the every say avarige man and that is one big advantege and this is how they made loyal customes. I just wanted to share and now here are some pictures od some of my new spyderco knives.
If you want a Delica you want this ZDP189 version I have not had a sharper spyderco from factory in my hands. Wow this is some amazing stuff.
just wanted to get your thought on the vg-10 vs zdp-189 thing?is it worth the extra money to get the delica with zdp? 30 dollars more seems a bit steep
i have gotten into steels alittle bit the last couple of weeks after playing with some vg-10 and really liking it, so i was looking for the next step up which seems to be the zdp. and i really like the delica so just gotta convince the mrs that the extra money is worth it
I have had no problem to sharpen the spyderco used ZDP 189 you can sharpen the VG-10 faster but ZDP189 you can go to the level of a laser sharpened surgical scalpel and if you don want to spend extra 30 usd than use ebay there you can find nice deals even used. So i recommend if you don't want to spend so much money but want to try out the ZDP189 steel go on ebay or look around on forums or youtube maybe somebody is selling it for cheap. I did bought my new for 68 USD shipped. Yes and it is extreme hard steel so keep in mind no extreme hard abuse because it could chip or brake.
Here are my two ZDP Spyderco's
I did a blade re-profile on my customized Dragon-gnat (originally a Dragonfly 2 ZDP version)
just fpund out about the zip-tie mod for the spyderco, LOVED it, been looking at the emerson but dont think i´ll bother after using the spyderco. although my wife made fun of me for the mod...... haha
I love spyderco knives they are outstanding but if you need a extreme reliable hardcore tactical knife and don't want to go the STRIDER way I can highly recommend the Emerson folders. Ernest Emerson is one of the most respected tactical knife makers out there his designs are superb because he is great in making functional design that are used in field. He is using simple hardware and a chisel grind on his knives. His knives are primarily focused for military and law enforcement operators and there is nothing better or a faster opening system on a folder than the Emerson pocket opening feature (wave). If you get one you will be not disappointed nothing against the spyderco ghetto wave but man you ruin the overall knife design. But being spyderco that great knife company that it is they have two knives wit the Emerson opening feature so go get them they are simply amazing especially if you like the delica or endura :-)
very true, unfortunently the knife laws in sweden sucks, your not really allowed to carry anything unless you need it for work and the likes, so a small folder you can get away with but an emerson, not likely, so i was merely trying to rationalize to myself not getting one:-) i will defenently get an emerson down the road, didn't mean to offend any emerson fans out there. although gotta say, seeing the spyderco wave delica, i quite like it. unfortunently it only comes in black, and i am so sick of black g-10 and black plastic. i want color:-) getting the purple delica and i already have a pink griptilian.
Thank Bjorn today I have time so I will definitively make a bunch of nice photos. Just need to wait while the battery is charged up. I have a dozen new knives here on the table that I want to share with you but not here because they are not spyderco and I want to keep things in order so i recomment you to join the following groups:
And I'm sorry to hear about that with the knife law in your country. Here in Slovakia we do not have any knife restriction I hope that it will newer change.
And if you want a special colored spyderco maybe I can ask my friend he does special custom modification on spyderco knives if you are interested send me a PM.
Emerson E78 (CQC7 and CQC7A auto made by Pro-Tech. MSRP $280. Emerson does not make auto knives. One Shot Show back Dave Wattenberg had the occasion to talk to Ernest Emerson. In this conversation the Emerson auto was born. Pro-Tech makes two versions of the Emerson CQC7 and the CQC7A in the auto. Now is the time to get interested Patrik. The worlds finest knife designer marries-up with the worlds finest production auto knife maker to produce these jewels. Considering these facts the retail price is not bad.
I know Dave ships these knives to Russian knife dealers who buy up a large part of his production. So there should be one in a knife shop near you. If not you can order one from Pro-Tech.
Yes people, we export American finely crafted products.
What should I say this is a fine exemple of a beatuful executed knife in my opinion there is no need to make them as auto because of the Emerson oppening feature but there are a lot of auto collector and users who prefer them. I have some autos but nothing fancy but I have on my wish list the Microtech Select Fire :
Yes and Clint autos are not so popular in my country so my local knives suppliers don't really have them maybe because they are expensive you know for somebody is even 25 dollar more than they are willing to pay for a knife so 10 times that much is a big risk for them. Russia is a beautiful big country have some really great friends from there but really don't have the time to go there is just little bit behind the corner 1185 miles to be exact. It is much easy for me to buy from US to tel you the truth.
Here is my recent purchase The Cricket in Black FRN with ATS 55 blade. I wanted a non SS version for a long time but because the carbon fiber version cost more than 100 USD if you manage to find it I went with the next best thing and that is the classic FRN version that is not made for a long time. Enjoy some quick pictures more will be added to my gallery as soon as I have time to make them.
I think I do want the new Szabo Folder and the Tuff it was announced in 2011 i hope we see it soon for sale. I hope that they will not cost an arm and an leg.
Not everybody is avare of the Chinese knife market. Here is one comparison and some thoughts.
Spyderco Endura 4 Vs Byrd Cara Cara 2 Vs NAVY K-631
Endura 4 - VG10 /FRN/ HG
Cara Cara 2 - 8CR13MoV /FRN/FFG
K-631 - 440C /G10/HG
The blade tip configuration is slightly different as you can see on the picture the K-631 has a more pointed tip so that it makes it more effective for a stabbing type action. Cara Cara gen. 2 has more belly so this is more a working knife as by ma opinion. The K-631 like the Cara Cara 2 are offed in 3 blade configuration. At this point I do not have the G10 version of Cara Cara 2 but for information purposuses the FRN version is sufficient.
I you want a G10 version of the Endura but don't want to spend a long time searching the secondary market and spend 120+ USD I can recommend the Byrd or Navy knives. For about 30 USD you cant go wrong they are a value purchase. I do not support or promote any of these Chinese knives but when spyderco does not see the need or market for A G10 line for Endura and Delica you have other option one is go the custom way the second is buy other brands.
I'm that I can share with you all my first custom spyderco.
It is a Delica 4 FFG with royal blue G10 handle scales made by Oscar Garcia thank you buddy. I would like in the future acquire some more of his custom modified spyderco's.
Hi Bjorn I guess this is the right place to do some advertising for a felow collector/knife modifier.
Here are some of his spyderco creations. The mods are not cheap but we all know that you get a unique knife so to say one of kind.
If you want to spend from 100-150 USD depends on the basic knife send me a PM with your email and I will give him your contact. Hi takes orders on preference basis. So basically if you want a green G10 delica with red liners extra gimping hi can do that and had a reasonable prices.
Have a nice day i hope you like the pictures this are directly from Oscar I do not own these knives.
