Not everybody is avare of the Chinese knife market. Here is one comparison and some thoughts.

Spyderco Endura 4 Vs Byrd Cara Cara 2 Vs NAVY K-631

Endura 4 - VG10 /FRN/ HG

Cara Cara 2 - 8CR13MoV /FRN/FFG

K-631 - 440C /G10/HG

The blade tip configuration is slightly different as you can see on the picture  the K-631 has a more pointed tip so that it makes it more effective for a stabbing type action. Cara Cara gen. 2 has more belly so this is more a working knife as by ma opinion. The K-631 like the Cara Cara 2 are offed in 3 blade configuration. At this point I do not have the G10 version of Cara Cara 2 but for information purposuses the FRN version is sufficient.

I you want a G10 version of the Endura but don't want to spend a long time searching the secondary market and spend 120+ USD I can recommend the Byrd or Navy knives. For about 30 USD you cant go wrong they are a value purchase. I do not support or promote any of these Chinese knives but when spyderco does not see the need or market for A G10 line for Endura  and Delica you have other option one is go the custom way the second is buy other brands.

It is a Delica 4 FFG with royal blue G10 handle scales made by Oscar Garcia thank you buddy.  I would like in the future acquire some more of his custom modified spyderco's.

Thank you Ron I do appreciate your words. I still consider my collection to be small. I bought my first spyderco 6 years ago. Got really into them just 3 years ago and as you can see I love them.    

Patrik, I only recently was bitten by the Spyder, myself. In fact, I got my first Spyderco Para 2 in May of last year. I have since acquired 2 more Paramilitary 2's and 2 full Millie's. I think the thing I like the most about Spydies is that they come in some many flavors -- Different steel, different locking variants, and so many handle options and materials. I am currently contemplating the purchase of a Gayle Bradley. Which, by all accounts, seems to be quite a popular knife. You probably have the same problem I have with Spyderco's, in that I rarely get to handle them before buying one. I'm not completely convinced that I will like the liner lock on the GB since some owners claim that it is not like the liner lock on, say, the Military, for instance. It's supposed to be a little hard to get to? Also, there is another Sprint run Para 2 that I really want -- the green one that is suppose to be out sometime this month.

In any event, they sure are nice knives --all of 'em--and I am anxious to get my paws on more of them!

Ron I completely agree with you and I can say just go for it the GB is a perfect knife you will be not disjointed I can tell you that it is also on my wish list some say that the knife is one f the best production knives that spyderco makes.  I'm currently selling my sebenza 21 large because I do want a Mictotech select-fire and some other knives but I will buy also more spyderco's.

This is a nice smaller blade but in many applications you don't need more.

That GrassHopper is a really nice little knife, Patrik! It will do just about anything you need a knife to do, and it's legal just about anywhere. Perfect!

This is another interesting offering from Ed Schempp! CPM 3V steel is definitely not an ordinary run-of-the-mill steel that you might expect to find in a folding knife. But this is not a run-of-the-mill knife, that's for sure! There are a number of unusual aspects to this knife, not the less of which is the blade's steel.

For starters, you need look no further than this knife's geometry to appreciate its difference. Then, the coupling of the titanium and G10 scales to form the highly dimpled handle on this baby.

I see where it offers the same beefed up Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) as my titanium Spyderco Military.

On its surface it looks like it might go a long way toward living up to its name of "Tuff." However, I really doubt that I'll be adding one anytime soon to my Spyderco arsenal?

I say that for a couple of reasons. For one thing, I would expect a knife that's built this tough to have a longer cutting edge than a mere 3 inches. That's less than what I have on one of my Para 2's. It seems like there's a whole lot of steel there with very little designed to do any actual cutting?

Another reason is purely aesthetic. I don't care for the look of all those dimples. I know they're there to cut down on the weight of the knife and perhaps give you a little more grip. But, I think they look atrocious!

And, then, last but not least. I think that, for my purposes, CPM 3V might be a little better suited for a fixed blade knife than a folder? I just don't tend to spine whack or abuse my folding knives to a point where I'd need the chip resistant characteristics of 3V steel.

From my perspective this knife just seems like overkill on many levels. At least in regard to what I expect from a folding knife. "Folding" being the operative word in that sentence.

I would love to hear what others think of this knife. Especially from someone who actually owns one.

Spyderco knives...not the Byrd line...makes good quality knives.  The higher priced knives are normally made in the USA or Japan by the finest of craftsman.  So if the price is high is because it cost more to make.  As we all know....if you want quality you pay for quality.  A problem with Spyderco is when they come out with a knife like this and you think about purchasing one and then start a side fund to go forth with the purchase...and then go to buy this knife....they no longer make one.  If you go to their web site in their catalog on page 6 the "Discontinued" knives start and go through page 14.  The Spyderco Lum Tanto #FB03 is a prime example.  This knife is one good DCC (Direct Contact Combat) knife and in my professional opinion the best Spyderco ever made. If an up and coming knife manufacture such as TOPS would produce this knife it would be a big seller.  So the only complaint I have with Spyderco is dropping a good design and coming up with some off the wall projects...which there are many.

Hm nice point Clint I own one lum tanto and yes it is one of a kind outstanding knife don't be disappointed for near twice the price you can buy the benchmade version

Yes I am familiar with the Benchmade 760 but I am not a fan of tanto blade for a pocket knife unless the blade is 4.5 inches or longer.  The tanto design was made for causing large slashing wounds.  Yes you can stab as well but you can stab with a slotted screwdriver too but the screwdriver was not made with this task in mind.  The tanto is good in a combat knife but not superior to the drop point, spear point, clippoint etc. in a working folding pocket knife.  Food for thought.

As sad it is nothing last forever (only the human stupidity) you all know if you want a particular knife there are second market option like ebay or forums where you can buy them not always cheap but if you really want it the price is on the second place anyway.

I here what your saying.  The reason the Lum Tanto didn't sell in my opinion was at the time it was too expensive. It came with a very nicely made leather sheath but was not suited for military or law enforcement (LEO) use and in brown...not as good as black.  The knife was not marketed well wherein its probable target market...like the military and LEO were either overlooked or just not pursued in the right way.

I appreciate the info on the new folder FB3 Lum Tanto sprint.  Being a professional writer for the last 11 years and have written and sung the praise of the Spyderco brand and even toured their factory in Golden, Colorado and personally met their marketing people.....I had no idea this knife was even in the works.  Case proven on the marketing.  I just don't have the time to keep up with the new knives coming out from over 25 different companies.  Many contact me to let me know of their new products.  Out of 10 of these notifications I may select one to write about as I have a limited number of article each year.

I personally own several spyderco knives and just love the quality.  You can't beat them.

Keijo thank you for the information and presenting a defensible side for Spyderco.  I know Joyce and Mike would appreciate it.

Yes I looked the FB3 Lum Tanto up on ebay and there was one at "buy it now" for $399.00.  This is way out there on price.  At most it should be no more than $200.  I like Spyderco but not that much. LOL!  Thanks Patrik.
