Hi Thorvan, Tell us more about the collection you want to put together. Is it from a certain date range, or perhaps all the black phenolic handled knives. Sounds like your interested in the 100 series....

The ones you didn't mention are:
    122/124 Nemo/Frontiersman
    120 General
    118 Personal
    116 Caper
    107 Scout (Micarta Scales)
    117 & 115 Trophy Sets (twin sets)

    Did I miss any?

Yes there was a saw too, #153....
    Mike
  • Thorvan Patten JR.

Wow thats great info. I have a little booklet called Knife Know-How. By Al Buck. And the cover shows 10 knives a saw and hatchet.I do not know how old the booklet is. The knives do have the pheolic handles. It looks like I have some knife hunting to do. Thanks guys for the info. THOR.
  • MJ Wallace

Here's a little more on the Twinsets:

    Twinset 104 (102 Woodsman & 103 Skinner)
    Trophy Set 117 (116 Caper & 103 Skinner)
    Sportsman Set 115 (118 Personal & 103 Skinner)

And a brochure from the late 60's early 70's, the Hunters axe and 122/124 are not shown, maybe on a different page, I'll do some more looking. Mike

    .. modified for a "comfort fit" ..
  • MJ Wallace

Wow Dale, that's a serious mod... how's it feel in the hand when you're using it?
  • MJ Wallace

.. surprisingly well .. no longer any edges on the handle .. no pres pts that cause fatigue about the 2cnd deer .. but, I'm a small person .. small hands .. I admit .. some pretty serious contouring of the frame & scales ..

I actually did this for my Dad 75/76 .. he used it for 20+ yrs .. after he passed .. I got his 1st pistol (9-shot H&R ..won't hit broad side of a barn) & all the knives .. other siblings got multiple firearms .. it was a fair trade !!!!!!

  • Chopper

What do you guys think of the Buck Squire? I'm thinking about picking one up, I like that it comes with a sheath, anybody know if the sheath is Made In USA?
  • Thorvan Patten JR.

Ibought a Buck 619 at auction. And I read that there were around 4500 made with the black handle and around 11000 with the OD handle. My numbers could be wrong . Mine has the black handle. The man said he was with Buck. But this is the internet. Is this true and is this knife rare? I paid $35 for the knife. Thank You. THOR.

Patrik, I think that is an excellent knife. I have the Select model with plastic handle. Really good cutting blade and operation. Very good pocket clip. Nice size; not too big, not too small. Check for blade centering before purchasing.
  • Kurt Sandstrom

Ordered my first Buck 110 2 days ago and I cant wait to get it!
  • KENT GABLE

Kurt-you have made an excellent choice that will last you a lifetime or more. I had one Stockman 110 develope some finish blemishes on it. I had been sailing the Caribbean down island to Venezuela in my 34' sailboat (long gone) & I reckon the salt air might have gotten to it or maybe '94 was just a bad year for steel because my Case Stockman went the same way.
I returned my Buck & they promptly sent me a replacement in '98 which I still carry. I'm rough on it too! Do ALL the wrong things - prying, twisting-if I bust a tip off a blade I just sharpen it back up.
I just bought another because I got a good deal on it & I could lose mine but I'll sure as heck never wear it out.
All Buck products are top notch & ya can't beat them for the price. They ain't as pretty as Case knives but they sure are tough. ( I like & own Case knives too & am a member of their Case Club, just for the record.
  • Patrik Ilijev

Hi guys I bought this old buck No. 186 bud can't find any information about this knife. I would like to know what kind of steel was is made and what the handle is made from it looks like G10 but I think it is some kind of composite polymer.

  • MJ Wallace

Patrick, Your Buck Knife is an Odyssey, manufactured in 2001.  There were three versions of this knife.  The 186 (yours) with 420HC blade steel and G-10 scales.  The 181 with ATS34 steel and G-10 scales, and the 182 with ATS34 and carbon fiber scales.  They were also available with a partially serrated blade.  I've got one of the 181's, with the serrated blade, nice knives. Mike
  • Patrik Ilijev

Wow thank you Mike now I know more about thin fine knife.

Here are some o my new Buck models.

  • johnny twoshoes

Great knives guys, I really like that custom. : )

Patrik, I have one of those selects, but it's just the cheap one from walmart.

  • Patrik Ilijev

Hi Johnny. Cheap ? you have the Avid version that is a nice knife with a decent steel a god handle scales with a price tag from 39-55 USD it is not a price point that have  some customs but in my option  the Vantage Select are cheap I bought my for 16 USD + shipping. Overall all are nice and useful EDC options.
  • johnny twoshoes

I agree, it is a very useful knife.

I think that the price was cheap for the knife I received, it's a great worker.

  • johnny twoshoes

I just ordered a Buck 501 Squire, any thoughts?
  • johnny twoshoes

Okay, so I got my squire on Monday, I've enjoyed it very much since it's arrival. It has control of the pocket as of right now, but I do let others tag along. I'm hoping to settle down a bit in buying, so this knife is going to help me.

  • Sunil Ram

Buck Knives is having a 40% off sale on most models in their hunting knives line. Enter code TROPHY40 at checkout. Sale ends October 7.
  • Leon Bingo

I usually have two Bucks on me at any given time, pardon the pun! Buck makes some of the best knives around! The ones I have are usually very sharp right out of the package! I recently acquired a Buck Vantage with the Paperstone handle, I also have a Buck Odyssey with a maroon colored handle and no serrations which I prefer! I have several other Buck knives including their Omnihunter 12 pt folder and a Buck Special 119. Would like to find one of their older 120 series Bowie knives at a reasonable price, though I understand they would cost more now since they are discontinued and are now collectibles.
  • Billy Oneale

I don't think i have posted any pics of my Buck's here yet. Here is one that i really liked. It is the Father & Son 112 in the green paperstone.
  • Patrik Ilijev

I just love my Buck Vantage select such a awsome value for the money. Decent steel razor sharp and no problem with maintenance.

  • johnny twoshoes

    Patrik, thats awesome!!

Buck really did a good job on these knives, I have the Walmart version which is just a cheaper steel, but it has the laminate wood scales on it.

I also have a Vantage that was Chuck Buck's own EDC. It's a pretty awesome knife to have, especially knowing who used it.

  • Patrik Ilijev

Yes I can just agree with you Johnny at entry level select model you have everything what you need from an EDC a decent steel perfect pocket clip and nice handle material it is medium traction and the best thing is it does not rip your pocket. I also have the Avid and also a small select with paperstone handles. Looking forward to buy a Vantage Force model.

My both select model I have have a centering issue they prefer one side of the liner the Avid had better centering.  I think it was because it was a 2009 release I know that the current line has better quality control and they have less centering issues.

  • Billy Oneale

Here is a neat little Buck that I forgot that I Had. It is the Summit
