From what I recall -- he was a local gentleman who lived near by who hand makes tool without the use of any modern power.  That is no electric grinders and truly  steel hammered by hand.  I believe Sam Stoner is Amish.

If we have to lose some groups, I feel this is could be one.  KL is gone and at some point we have to let go.

I miss my Knives Live TV & especially Tactical Knives TV!  Josh Hill was my favorite, I'll have to say, & I hope all those guys are still doing well with SMKW!

Oh I miss it also.  I spoke with Jay this week but have not spoken with Josh since before the holidays.  He is loving working with the guns!

I liked and miss Knives Live too.  Josh was my favorite too but I liked Jay and Tony too.  I got to meet all three of them when I visited SMKW last.  Josh gave me a tour of the whole facility including the TV studio.

My favorite Josh story is his tendency to cut himself while showing knives.  But I did him one (actually two) better.  I recently cut myself with three different blades of the same knife at the same time.  It was a Rough Rider six blade stockman.  I was opening all six blades to take a picture.  It slipped and three of the blades cut me!  I bet Josh never accomplished that!  LOL

Josh,Jay and Tony are still with SMKW and doing fine, last I heard.  Steve Koontz and Travis Ferguson are  with Bud's Guns and Ammo at a store right next to SMKW.  If you're in Sevierville, it's just one stop to see both stores. I hope to get back down there soon.

This past week-end, I had to drive my daughter from Chicago to Altus AFB in Altus OK.  Had I known that that the Shepherd Hills Factory outlet was at the mid point on my road trip I would've planned accordingly.  Beign on a tight schedule and having no spare cash on me, all I could do is sigh heavily as passed by all those tempting bulletin boards.    Incidentally if you're heading west on I-44  exit 29 is a total let down.   Exit 8, however will be much better.  Don't believe the hype.  Shepherd Hills is in Lebanon, MO.,  off I-44 W exit 127.  They also have a store in Branson.  Nest time, I'll plan ahead!

I have been to SMKW several times but never to Shepherd Hills.  Hope to rectify that someday.

Wow, Toby, You came within 90 miles of where I live. Altus is around 80 miles south of where I live.

It was really just a quick trip as my dropped my daughter off (a very long story.)  In the process we were invited on the base and got to see a C-17 Galaxy on the flight line (but was forbidden to take photos by Base Security)     That will have to wait until the the summer or fall when we head out to Lewis/McCord in Tacoma WA.  WAs only on base for about an hour.  My daughter, who is still there has promised to send me some better pics of the base.    The two below are of a C141, one of the jets I jumped out of back in my youth.

Jan, the "kid in a toy store feeling" pretty well nails it.  If you like knives, how can you not love a visit to SMKW!  As for what is my favorite part, it is hard to pick out one specific thing.  There is just so much to see.  All the exhibits and displays on the walls and in cases.  You could spend days there to take in everything in detail.  And of course there is all the knives.  And now guns and ammo.  But if I had to pick a favorite part of a visit there, it would have to be finding a special knife to buy.  One that I have been looking for or one that just caught my eye and I had to have it!

I am always looking to buy more knives for my collection.. I have been told the guys that did the tv show at Smoky also sell knives online. Can anyone tell me how to find out where they sell?  I always liked the stuff they had on their shows. I think Tony was one guy and Jay was on some too. Any help is appreciated

Judy, SMKW sells knives on eBay as mvpknife.  They have flat rate shipping of $5.  If you order more than one knife and combine orders it is $1 per additional  knife.

If you order off SMKW's web site, the minimum shipping is $8.99.

BTW Judy, the third guy was Josh Hill.  He tended to cut himself quite a bit.  He even cut himself on the very last show they did.  He even commented that it was appropriate that he did that.

Steve Koontz and Tony Watkins were the main hosts for Knives Live TV.   Jay Parker would fill in when Steve or Tony were unavailable.  Later Josh Hill joined the three of them but in the beginning Josh was host for Tactical Knives TV.

Tactical Knives TV was intially hosted by Josh Hill and John Setzer.   John didn't work out and Steve started co-hosting along with Josh.  

(I think before the Tactical Knives, Josh was also involved with a very short lived SMKW project called the Knife Cave or something like that.  It basically evolved into the Tactical Knives TV.)

Josh was later moved into the Knives Live Rotation as Jay Parker was often on the road buying collections for the SMKW and the the show. (remember all of those Randalls?   This allowed Tony and Jay to concentrate on their other jobs at SMKW.  

Once Steve was let go, Tony, Jay and Josh took turns rotating through hosting Knives Live TV and Tactical Knives TV sort of went away and was blended into the rest of KLTV.

It should also be mentioned that Brian Wilhoite and Travis Ferguson also occasionally co-hosted the show.   Kevin Pipes also showed up on a few occasions as well as his son, Chase.

Not sure if Colt counts as an SMKW "House Brand" so I'll post this here.

Here is my current fave SMKW purchase, (one of them at least). Colt Scout Utility with Blue Jigged Bone #CT734. Best scout knife I own, (have a couple of old Imperials too). I want to get a Case version one day, but this knife is extremely well made and will do until I win the lottery, (and therefore able to order a Case). I especially like that this one has no bail; I carry it in a belt sheath. Very solid knife, especially for a measly 15 bucks.

I just ordered a Case Seahorse Whittler in Walnut Rogers Bone from SMKW as a Christmas present to myself, and also added the "MIKE 1" item from the Saturday Knife Show to my cart, so whatever that is will be arriving soon. Does anyone know what the "MIKE 1" item is?

For the past 7 years, I've been working on a collection of President Pipes Case XX knives.  I would really appreciate knowing more information  about the series.  When did this annual knife series begin?  I'd love to see a list of knives associated with year produced.  Best regards

I'll answer my own question from before: just what is item "MIKE1" from the Saturday Knife Show? Here it is, a little American Hunter flip knife with belt clip. Not a bad little import, tight, sharp, and best of all FREE! It came with the Case Seahorse Whittler I just ordered for myself from SMKW, and the MIKE1 item as added to my cart when watching the Saturday Knife Show on Facebook.

Cool, a "two-fer"!! Not necessarily my kind of pocket knife, but free is free and now I have another knife to gift this Christmas. My advice? Watch the Saturday Night Show, you get free stuff just for watching, (and ordering from SMKW of course).

Came with a handy belt clip, this knife is small enough to clip comfortably inside a boot.

MERRY CHRISTMAS !!

I sure miss not being able to go to SMKW for my yearly trip!  Even if I didn't buy anything it would be great just to look at all the knives and stuff.  But then I always did buy something too!

I noticed that Tobias. I suspect that ALL SMKW house brands and the Colt-branded knives come from the same factory. Change the tang stamp, shield and handle material and you have an instant "new" Rough Rider, (or Marbles). I would love to know more about their steel, so far the only SMKW brand that advertises 440 w/ a Rockwell test is Steel Warrior, the rest all seem to be using 420 no matter the brand.

Oops, I forgot that Steel Warrior is a Frost brand, NOT an SMKW brand. However, I bet they come from the factory.

I'm not a Damascus fanatic, not even a carbon steel fanatic. I learned young how to sharpen my tools, so getting SS sharp has never been an issue for me, unlike some who see carbon as superior due to ease of sharpening among other reasons. For me having a tool that won't turn into a rusticle is more important than swirly layers of steel on my blade. I've seen posts and photos of people anxiously watching their carbon knives develop "patina", (huh??); to me clean and corrosion free is much more desirable. Of course if I could get my hands on some good Alabama Damascus it might be a different story.
