GERBER. Bear Grylls Paracord knife

I've been looking for one of these Gerber BG paracord knives for a while now. Finally found one at a price that I could justify. Very happy with this find but I'm definitely gonna change out the paracord for black.

    Sweet deal there JJ...very nice. Not fan of the BG orange eh? Me neither.....looking forward to seeing the "after" photos....

    It seems everybody is in on it except me. 

    I do not understand why there are so many knives being offered with paracord in the handle.  I just dont get it.

    I understand that it is cheaper than any real handle material, and can make for a passable handle.  But to me that just screams that it is a blade that the company did not want to invest anything into the handle materials and make a 'good' knife.

    I did hear something about 'If you find yourself in a 'survival' situation, you can use the cord...'   My thinking reply...  How many feet of cord is on that handle?  I doubt a whole lot.  and are you ever in a situation that turn into a 'survival' situation?

    I am not trying to disparage the knife or anything, I am just ignorant of the 'Why'...
