The ID aspect of it never really goes pit of date. The value part? That part is so fickle that I never placed much of any stock in that. Even from region to region the value of items can change dramatically.
Oh nice grab! I agree with Kevin - as a resource for identifying, you can't beat it. As for values - that is to say the perceived worth of the item - I see as a marker in time, like original sales catalogs. As we collectors all know - our individual senses of worth (cost of item) differs from knife to knife, collector to collector. At the end of the day, we could argue all we want as to the worth of an item - but what are you willing to pay?
