No problem, now.  Just looked funny at first glance.

Looking at my old buddy, Jimmy Beam, on the desk...

    Thanks Scott,

It'll take a little time to get used to the layout but no problems so far.  I didn't even know about the site until somebody on Facebook mentioned it.  I'm making a huge change from primarily swordsmith to knifemaker this year, so I'm trying to get as much of my knife work out on the web as possible.  You wouldn't think the two markets are that different but its honestly like starting business up from scratch all over again.      Rick

You've seen this Mac software ??
  • Robert G. Mitchell

Thanks Scott, just picked up a new bowie a Bear & Son damascus monster 15' overall, 9' blade, I'm pretty darn happy with it. The damascus blade is worth the price of the knife, craftsmanship is OK, but nothing to write home about, the sheath is total junk I'll have to have one made, plus the quillon has some small nicks, but it's brass and soft.

Scott do you know anybody who would be willing to do some cutom work on this knife? Here's a picture of it. It's basic, but very workable.

I hope I didn't offend anyone with the dead animals? I thought that the photos were only to be on my page, not the main club page. Some seem to enjoy. Sorry, if I broke a rules.

Back home Friday huh?  Hopefully there'll be 2500 folks in town by then...
  • J.J. Smith III

It's so quiet in town right now, you can hear a pin drop.

  • Jim Thompson

Thanks for the comments on the pix I recently posted. They are a drop in the bucket as compared to your Toenails. You have the largest collection I have seen. I just posted a couple pix of some Outers pattern. One in particular is blade stamped "VALACUT". This is listed in my Goins book but with no supporting info. I suspect this is a retailer mark. Any info you or other associates may have is appreciated.

Thanks Scott - I am new to this so will be asking for lots of advice.  Regards Rodney

Thanks Scott! I'm still exploring the site, figuring out how it works.

I noticed that some functions do not seem to work with Firefox 3.6.14 - especially the log out function. The log out function seems to work OK with Internet Explorer.

I did find the Case group but could not add it to my page. Could be due to Firefox.

Thanks again for the welcome. I'll be sure to let you know if I need help.

    Thanks Scott,

It made me feel good to get welcomed, so I thought I'd return the favor to our new members..

  • Robert G. Mitchell

Hey Scott, well your not going to believe what’s happened with the Bowie project. Thanks to you I was able to get in contact with Bob Picklesmer, who was more than happy to help with the project, which put me in touch with Tom Stratton who said he’d be happy to help. I am so excited to have these craftsmen working on my Bowie. Tom’s got the blade right now, and I’m not quite sure where he’s at with it, but after he’s done his magic to it, it’s back to Bob to mount the redwood burl grips, and then off to Rick Garcia for the sheath. Don’t want to say too much right now, but when I get it back I’ll post a report on the whole project. Thanks a million!

Oh by the way I believe you were right on about the blade being made by Alabama Damascus Steel. I ordered a blank from their website very nice, and at a great price!

  • stephen tungate

scott hope you have had a good time .did you find some new toys while you've been gone?

    Scott,

Thanks for approving my membership. I'm looking forward to meeting fellow members and getting some questions answered. My dad turned me on to knife collecting many years ago, and I've already told him, my brothers, and my nephew, all collectors, about iKnife Collector.

  • Chris Finer

    Hi, Scott.

I've been a member for a very short time now, but I'm already thrilled at all the welcome messages I've received. I have something I'd like to contribute.

I am a librarian by profession and I catalog as a hobby. Wines, movies, books, photos -- and my knife collection. I've created a database to record the details of my knives. It has helped me stay organized, and I find it fun!

I have already shared it with one iKC member, and I'd like to share it with any other interested members, free of charge, of course. It was written in Microsoft Access 2003, but I believe it can be opened with the Open Office free database application,  Base. I can provide the link to Open Office as well.

You have a very well moderated group here, and I thought I'd contact you privately to make this offer to see if you were interested, if the group might be interested, and how I might best share the software. I could pass it to you to make available right here at iKC, or I can put it in the cloud and give members the link to find it. What do you think?

Thank you for the great welcome and for running a terrific group!

Things have been a little rocky in the carbon steel knife group but I think, I have got things smoothed out. I wish you would keep an eye on things in case we need help to  make things  play out with everyone having a smiling face. Thanks
  • Robert Jump

Thank you for the support and pointing out the elephant toenail venue.
