i love collecting knifes i been a collector for about 20 years. it started when my dad gave my first knife. it was a old timer 4 blade congress it was so sharp i almost cut my finger off cutting twine on a hay bale. i was in a hurry and cut the string with the knife backwards. it clamped down on my finger thats when i started to appreciate knifes.and also lock blades...
That's my farm and thanks! I find those arrowheads in my gardens all the time that's right beside my house and I find some in my yard during winter. I built my house on an old camp ground but I didn't find that out until I had the area Bulldozed and they started pushing dirt around. I plowed up two garden spots 50' x 75' real good, then tillered and started finding grinding stones, Spear points, bird points, skinning tools, and tons of flint chips everywhere. I find 3 to 5+ arrowheads, tools, knives, etc... per year just depending how hard or often I go out and look. I normally find them a few days after a good rain or when the Moon the up during the day, they just seem to pop right out at you during those times. It's funny how it works that way but I can go out looking for days without any luck and then find 3 or 4 in one day during a Full Moon that's straight up during med day! After a good rain the garden just glidders with fint chips everywhere. I picked up every piece one year and put in 5 gal buckets, I ended up with 4 5 gal buckets full before I decided to stop and it looks like I didn't even pick up a single piece after a good rain. LOL Send me an email: terrytruettsr@yahoo.com and will see about getting you a few Points!!
Jantz knifemaking supply has two in their catalog for around 100.00 dollars. They are called the Electrochem personalizer...
Personalizer Plus" Power Unit Very popular in the cutlery and custom knife-making industry, the Personalizer Plus is an electro chemical etching machine ideal for low volume metal marking applications. It’s no wonder that tens of thousands of these units have been sold to knife makers, gunsmiths, and medical instrument manufacturers worldwide. With 72 watts of power and variable output voltages of O-20, this popular model produces high contrast markings in just a few seconds. If medium power–with reliability and high performance- all in a very affordable package, are your requirements, the Personalizer Plus is the perfect unit for you.
Thanks for the comment onmy knives Sthphen! I made the pocket knife for myself, cary it everywhere I go. I still have the other one too. It has a maple Burl handle and the blade is sawblas steel. Thanks again, Mike
As for the style of knives that I make. I like to experiment a little with shapes, techniques, materials etc. In every knife I try to put something that I haven't done before. It adds a lot to my learning process.
i use 1095 high carbon steel on all my knives. its a good durable steel that is not too expensive so i can keep the cost of the knife down.
i am currently working on a O1 tool steel version of the Ironclad. i really like the O1 steel. its easier to grind, and is more stain resistant than 1095, but it cost more.
thanks for the kind remarks concerning the dogs..since Ed's last operation he has given both dogs away as he will never hunt again..very sad situation. Once again...thanks for the comment...
Stephen, I was the same way on the TOPS Stryker. I liked it but the more I looked at it the more I wanted it. Now that I have it I am thrilled. It is a great knife. It will not disappoint.
August 21, 2011 David Allan Durr said... Thanks for all your comments. No, My Pink Heart is not a botten blank. All my Knives are hand made. Infact I use 1095 hi-carbon steel. I may be useing more o-1 now with more chromium content, as the price of o-1 has dropped again. I still like 1095 for it's sharpenning ease,. however You have to keep it oiled.
Stephen,I got down to the show Saturday.Other than the power going out for awhile it was good. All the tables were filled and seemed alot of people were coming through.I spent a good 4+ hours there.Ive gone to this show for several years and it is one of the better club shows.
Thanks. The music is by a local group called "Appalatin". They are a latin group that plays mountain folk music. Very intersting sound and a great band.
No problem. I am a big SOG fan and write for Knives Illustrated as a contributing editor. As a writer, one of several things I do, I like feedback from the knife and tool users out there so I can carry that input back to the knife manufactures. Thanks.
Thank you for the birthday wish and thank you for the compliment on my knife. After the man bought it he brought back to me and had me file work the back of the blade and put cloths on the pin-up. You just never know
Thank you, I have two sets of 8 piece cactus filled handled Buck steak knives that were Buck Knife sales production awards in the late 1970s. I would like to sell them do you know how I would go about that? Thank you for your help
I know that you will probably want to make a profile of Mr. Ivy and I would too but you go for it I know he is your mentor for learning how to make knives so please visit my blog and start the profiling. Thanks Stephen.
