Thanks for the Welcome. One thing I'm looking for is a nice Rad Hewer. I want to replace the family heirloom WW2 G.I. (my Uncle Raymond). I carried the Rad Hewer in Nam, but years later my brother sold it...can't remember to whom. Thanks, I feel like I'm with friends here. Michael Roper...aka...TANKER
I search every day for a RAD Hewer to replace the one that got away. My brother sent me the Hewer when I first got to Vietnam. It seemed that every soldier wanted a "personal" blade. The black fellows liked the Italian type switchblades, while the Hispanic guys carried "Bowie" knives. I decided that I wanted to carry a family heirloom big enough to make a statement!
Once I ran across an old grouchy Master Sargeant who decided he didn't like the swastika on the sheath and intended on taking the knife from me. Since I violently resisted, we went to the Batallion Commander for a resolution. To my surprise and relief, the Commander told the Sargeant: "Leave that soldier and his knife alone! If he wants to carry a family heirloom during this war, then you aren't going to stop him. I find it admirable that this young man wants to carry on a family tradition of serving his country with a weapon once captured in a previous war. Stay away from him, don't look at him, don't talk to him, don't harrass him in any way....is that crystal clear Master Sargent?"
That encounter is probably one for the books !!!!!! TANKER
Hello, First, excuse my English, like many frogs, I'm talking it very wrong. Yes, I live in a country where there are still many knives, especially at least one traditional knife by region. I have the chance of living at 20 miles from Thiers, city famous for its cutlery. I am currently looking documents with photos, drawings of the markings, various guides, etc, could help me to date precisely the brand Swiss Wenger knives, but as the company archives burned in an accident in 1985, there is no catalog or other documents prior to 1991. Good luck, Jean-Claude
Ron, I have been a Blades member on and off since the early '80's and actually worked the Expo for a number of years. Yes, I saw the notice about the show and will try to be there. Are you going to be at club next week?
