Thanks to all who have given a warm welcome to me.  I am actually a jeweler, but in my shop I buy interesting old things from time to time (not as often as I'd like).  Sometimes I don't know what it is I'm buying, so collective knowledge is always good.

... 'n what kind of goodies did you bring back from the show ???

    He he .. Frost.

    .

I've gifted a # of the lockback whittlers as first knives for kids. Nieces , nephews , friends kids , ... , a bunch of 'em. Figuring .. 1/3 will get lost .. another 1/3 broken .. 1/3 get used , 'n pretty hard. The lockback adds a nice measure of safety in a first knife ..&.. they're cheap as dirt. Their temper is a bit on the brittle side , though.

    .

    Anyway .. Frost .. don't we ALL have 1 or 2 .. or 3 .... or 4 .............

Hey JJ .. I've been pleased enough with the 3K grit diamond whetstones that I've now added a 6" X 6" version & a 9" X 3.14" unit. I'll use the 6" X 6" for a month or so & then give you a heads up whether the additional area is really that useful. @ 14.39 .. I'll get my $ worth. It's whether or not the 6" X 6" surface will actually be as useful as I anticipate. Anyway .. will let you know after a month or so of use. Enjoy .. Dale.

Yeah .. I've been VERY pleased w/ the 3K diamond stones. For general use ..my work EDCs.. I've no need to break out the hard arkansas I'd been using for 30+ yrs. Prior to the 3K .. the finest I had was EZE-LAP's "Super Fine" @ 1200 grit. It simply left too jagged of an edge for me. A couple passes on the hard arkansas took care of that. Now .. with the 3K grit .. and having the surface break down a bit w/ use .. I'm just fine with the result.
I just purchased the larger 6" X 6" because of the price & the very occasional desire for a larger surface .. i.e. large/wide wood chisels & such.

  • Frank Stennett

Sorry I missed you at the show . Bought a case stag 47 stockman  Made in the 60s pristine.

    Thanks, JJ.

As I'm sure you're well aware .. I'm just having fun here !!!

Think about it .. this is how I met you .. some 6+ yrs ago.

While we've yet to actually meet face to face .. I feel like I know both you & your family.

Wouldn't trade it .. for all the knives in China.
    :)

    !!! .. Enjoy .. !!!
