John, couldn't help but relate what I read about that expression, "The good Lord willing and the Creek don't rise."

Several years ago I was doing genealogy research and I ran across an article in which an elderly lady about 90 years old was interviewed.  She told how her grandmother had told her that they used that expression to say they would do something if the Creek Indians did not rise or as we would say today, go on the warpath.  Apparently the grandmother in her younger days had lived where the Creek Indians caused a lot of trouble.

So the Creek in that expression had nothing to do with water!

Thanks for the request, John. glad to be your friend.

Thanks, John. I wish I had my money back sometimes, until I look at them. I like some of my $10.00 knives as well as some that I spent over a $100.00 to get. Well , I haven't bought too many that were that high. But, I bought them all because I liked them.

Trappers, John! lmao! I love it!

That's John, I have had one , a Boston made melon tester, for many years. Not many uses other than testing melons , I suppose. Levine claims some are used in self defense. That long slim blade is wicked. As a child,I once saw a guy at the river, filleting perch with one. I said: "That just ain't right, you're not cuttin' my watermelon with that thing." Later he cut his own melon piece with it,after supper ...yuck!

  • Rick Hooper

That's ,thanks John! Most of the 1960-70's melon testers, I saw in the south, were made by Colonial of Providence RI , they were usually advertising give away's, from produce and food distributers.
