Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

The wife gave me an Android tablet, for my birthday, and I thought it would be another way to visit iKC, when I'm out and about.

Ok, I'm not the most up-to-date or technically savy person on the block;  I'm pretty comfortable on the desk top and have gotten used to using my little netbook, but this "Android" thing is a whole new ball game.

I like it for it's size (7"),  better battery life than the netbook and the ability to use it as an e-book reader, but trying to visit iKC is problematic at best.

I've tried several different browsers and found only 1 (Opera) that will let me view the site in any format that resembles what I'm used to.  Most only give a small set of views (like the recent activities feed), even when requesting the "Desktop" view.

Opera does give the standard view, but provides a limited functionality.

Steve has said that Ning is working on a portable version, but that's in the future.

So..., with all the "Android" phones and tablets out there, what's everyone else using to view iKC?

Maxthon browser looked promising, but the photo issue need it.  No photos in discussions and only allowed them to be loaded through the flash loader.

Jan, which version Android do you havr on your tab?  JellyBean works great on my Lenovo, but my phone was updated to KitKat.

Yep.  trying to find something that will work the same on tablets and phones.  Darn updates keep changing permissions.

After posting my last post, Steve said he uses the Puffin Browser, on IOS.  I gave it a try and found that it works equally well on my phone and tablet.  The free version is so good I might need to actually cough up the $4.00 for the paid version.  Only thing I can fault is the apps keyboard     Well, I stand corrected.  The app wont let me add photos to a discussion, from my phone.  The search continues.

After all my "Browser" issues,  I've decided to stay with Chrome.  The main factor is the ability to upload photos properly.  Some will let you add them and some will outright not let you.

Got this off of the Ning help page ---

Supported Browsers

Ning 2.0 works well with these browsers:

  • Firefox
  • Chrome
  • Safari 5.1 and Safari 6
  • Internet Explorer 8 and 9

Some browsers get updated more rapidly. Please contact us if you see any issues in newer versions of browsers on this list. Although you’re welcome to use Ning with a browser that is not in this list, some of the features on your Ning Network may not work correctly.

I think they're referring to desktop/laptops though and not Android.

I want to cuss Google so bad.  My phone recently updated to version4.4.2, KitKat.

Because of the restrictions that they place on external SD card storage, I'm not able to post pics that I store there.  I've got to either move them to the device storage or to a cloud account.  I wish I still had ICS.

I was poking around the play store, looking for a flashlight app, when this popped up.

Got a "Swiss Army Knife" on my phone.

I use Dolphin Browser on my phone and the only thing I have an issue with on iKC is the mini version of the chat, easily solved by popping out the large chat. I know it's an older topic, but hope it helps!
