Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

The time has come to start the discussion on the 2014 iKC knife.

I would again like to shoot for August/Sept delivery date.  Something to remember while we talk about this is that a short run of only 50 or so knives means we need to tie in with a maker that is already running a knife and tweak that one to make it our own.  The reason for this is most SFO's require a minimum order of 250 or more.  Also I would like to keep it less than $125.00 delivered to you.  I have some eyes checking out whats available at a factory or two but always love to hear your ideas.  Remember, this is YOUR knife

Here is a pic of the official annual knives we have done so far

Robert,

Bless your heart ♥.  It never upsets me, it just seems like it is a long process to get everyone involved, wait to hear from the manufactures.......

I hope dealing with this years knife is not getting on your nerves or maybe up setting you. I know you work hard to try please everyone. Please, know it will work out just fine. Nothing can go wrong as bad as last year. So don't worry be happy. :)   :)    :)

Wow Jan, I am so impressed. You are really tolerating a lot of discussion, different ideas, and all your hard work got me thinking; As you talk to manufacturers, do you have to work with just variations on their current production or are you looking at already produced knives that they may have a surplus of?

Because I really like the look of the Great Eastern Cutlery knives and there are references to Ken Daniels one of its founders. If he is of the Daniels family you are talking too, great! I would love one of their knives and thought about this pattern:

Here is a nice pic of 3 congress styles I would LOVE to carry with the Northfield 4 blade looking top drawer!

No -- let me 'splain, "a camel is a horse designed by committee", fortunately we are not designing the horse, but simply helping to select the breed and the tack.

Someone mentioned Ruple.  Well I have a Bill Ruple and it is a beautiful knife, but, but, but, there is a little ripple in my Ruple.  One of the blades has a tiny wave in it.  Why didn't I send it back?  Because its MY knife and there is no other exactly like it.

If you are looking for perfection in a knife, then I suggest you study in depth "Plato's theory of forms" and when you have divined the form of the perfect knife -- come describe it to the rest of us.

This is not directed at any one person and is only a general observation to all.

Ain't that da truth James!

Luke,

Every year I encourage this discussion, thank you.  I may have the papers for iKC in my name but I maintain it is the members that make this site, not me.  The reason I would prefer to not do a fully surplus knife is that there is no way to make it our own.  Already put together and stamped is actually harder to make our own with

James,

Truer words have never been spoken

Way to go James.

I get it! thanks for splainin' all. So is the Ken Daniels of Great Eastern the Daniels family you are talking too?

BTW I'm learning a lot; from style names and materials to history of different companies. This is great fun.

I like that 4 blade also, Luke.  Needs a wharnie as opposed to the sheepfoot.

Yes the same Family. They're not with GEC anylonger but the Family Ryan and his wife and Ken are Queen and Tuna Valley Cutlery

Also, Canal Street has joined in the hunt for what they can do for us

All this looking around, found me a couple of nice looking knives I just had to try. Both new shapes for me, being a Stockman/ Congress lover... Should get them is a week or so. And yes I'm still in for the group knife, though I'll be eating salad till it comes in...

the First is a 'Canal Street Cutlery: 3 1/2" Three Blade Cannitler/Canoe Pocket Knife in Camel Bone'

and the second should be a real beauty by Northwoods: Can someone tell me if this is a Wharncliffe or Sheepsfoot or is it a Lambsfoot??

I am preparing to eat my hat if either of these are the group knife:-) and gladly I will....

I would call it a modified wharncilff and I think you made some fine choices there
