The Olden Days

Awrite knife people... If you were living in the "Olde Days" where there was a good chance you and/ or your loved ones would be attacked by thieves,bandits,rogue ninjas,pirates,pillagers,or the likes,what blades would you carry or keep with you?We are not limited to knives,so what would YOU choose?No fire arms.

I'm a little confused here myself...it says we're not limited to knives but it also says no firearms..like
I said before a Bowie/Arkansas Toothpick and since we're talking bout the old days for a sidearm I
guess I would have to pick the Colt SAA with a Model 94 Winchester in 30-30.

Captured By The Indians: 15 Firsthand Accounts, 1750-1870 by Frederick Drimmer
That has a lot of cool stories about indians and tomahawk killings.............

Fantastic responses everybody.Add pics if ya got the weapon in your collection.I might choose a bow/arrows,a smaller 4in. blade knife with a little curve/belly on it, a hawk with spike on the back or a long knife(12-16"bl)styled like a falcata sword..There is other choices for myself,but this is Answer#1.Realistically,it would be foolish to take/carry more weapons/blades than you can handle with no vehicles back then and so much other goods to carry.

Hey, Jeremi has outdone us all!!! I didn't even think of a bow and arrow (now really, is that a "blade"?), but I want one! And the tomahawk - truly inspired, so I want one of those, too. And I also want an 8-ft long African Zulu spear. Now, I guess I'll need a huge percheron horse to haul me and all this iron around.

I'd like to hear what some of you other members would choose here on Fixed blade club as your choices.Your only limited to All pointy and sharp things since this is Iknifecollector.Here's a bunch of my functional fixed blades.Hope2 hear a reply from some of you...

That's my old Gerber Utility Bowie but the guard came off.Knife still works great though.

When I have pants on, my Fallkniven S1 with 5.125in blade is in my strong hand pocket in an unbuttoned kydex sheath. I consider it the world's finest fighting knife, and I carried a Randall into combat 45 years ago. Fortunantly I have not been forced to display it in anger. BTW, friend, RIGHT NOW is the "olde days" as always. After taking some training in "Cane Fu" I think my bent bamboo cane is to be preferred over my knife or omnipresent revolver. It is fast and quite able to disarm and deter an opponent. I carry it even though it's not needed for the leg. Anyone can carry a cane, and you seem less a threat although you are quite well armed.

Good Sirs, you neglect one very important factor--the carry of swords (rapiers or katanas or a broadsword) was restricted to the nobility, the Samurai or the Knight/Man in Arms and not to the lowly peon...The wearing of such, by those not allowed or authorized, resulted in usually immediate death for the good news or torture and then death for the not so good news…That is unless you wish to raise yourself socially?

The old days to me means anything before 1931 when the Governments passed the laws in Canada and the USA restricting the types of firearms we were allowed to own and/or carry and which was brought about by the Volstead Act (18th Amendment) which caused the likes of Al Capone, John Dillinger, Bonnie & Clyde to come forward into notoriety.

I'd choose a 12" Bowie worn horizontally across my back, a stiletto blade in my boot and a Stockman's knife in my pants pocket for a gunless scenario.

Gunned scenario would include a large bore pistol on the hip with a smaller framed pistol tucked away in a jacket pocket or shoulder holster.

If long guns came into it--a 10 bore double barrel, eared shotgun with a 24" improved modified barrels for close in and a Sharps rifle with 32" barrel chambered in 40-65 Win for distance work and a Winchester 1897 lever gun in .30/40 Krag-Jorgensen or preferably the .303 British…For an alternative it would be a Model 1886 in .45/70 Government depending on year..
