I'll start with an easy one- You probably all have seen this tang stamp or a variation there of on a Remington knife- What does UMC stand for??

A little tougher one- What famous author mentioned a particular style knife in two of his most famous works and helped make the knife famous ?? Name the author and / or the knife ??

Wow, That's amazing. That's even before the Greeks. I also couldn't find a picture on line. It would be nice to see. I did find a Viking knife (Roman knives are common on line) and it was impressive.

Even though the Vikings came after the Romans, this blade is made of bronze. It seems the Vikings were pretty advanced. They even had a bottle opener! Probably for beer bottles.:)

That knife is impressive! I think you have something in the travelling part, most everything I see in the oldest claims is from groups of travellers

The first folding knife was probably not the first pocket knife. One first has to determine which came first, pockets or folding knives! And if pockets came first, did people put non-folding knives in them! My bet is pockets did come first and non folding flint knives were probably carried inside the pocket. I could also imagine some Neanderthal having too much time on his hand during a long winter finding a way to collapse his flint or antler blade into a wood or bone handle for safe keeping. When you consider the atlatl has been around for at least 17, 000 years there is no reason to assume that folding knives aren't as old or possibly older. Just my two cents.
