Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Hi All.

I received a Schrade 1983 Hertiage 8801 from an online retailer. Unexpectedly, it has an X through the Heritage mark on the tang, and no etching on the main blade. I also suspect the scales are mismatched - one green, one brown. Otherwise, the knife is near mint.

I would appreciate any opinions on whether I should keep this stockman as a collectable or not (I am running out of time to return the purchase).

Thanks for your help, Brian

It's almost impossible to determine whether any particular knife is a collectible or will increase in value.
Considering, from what you wrote, that the knife is in very good condition, it would seem your decision should be based on how desirable (to you) this knife is. Again from what you wrote, it appears that the X is only for the mismatched scales.

I have a couple of prototypes in my collections that are less than perfect, but I like them. I have a Case with blades that don't match the handle. I keep them because they make my collection more valuable to "me".

I believe you should use this criteria to decide:
(1). do you like the knife?
(2). can you afford the knife?
(3). will you enjoy the knife?

Hope this helped. JC
Thank you. Your thoughts match mine. As I have 2 other Heritages, I am leaning toward getting my money back - to put it to work on some other stockman.
You are welcome. Happy hunting>
