Colt, there is no plan anywhere in sight to start making knives again

BREAKING! The legendary gun manufacturer, Colt filed for bankruptcy in June of 2015. Don’t worry. The court approved Colt’s reorganization plan in January of 2016, and they will continue making guns. They won’t, however, continue making knives under their current licensing deals, and according to a source close to Colt, there is no plan anywhere in sight to start making knives again. This means that if you’re a Colt knife collector, then you have a piece of history that may never produced again – ever. And, if you can get your hands on a Colt knife, you should – because Colt Knives just became a collector’s dream.

and as another news flash comes through today Smith and Wesson is buying Taylor Brands

KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) – Smith & Wesson, a leading manufacturer of firearms, announced today its accessories division, Battenfeld Technologies, signed a definitive agreement to purchase all assets of Taylor Brands for $85 million.

The deal is expected to close August 2016.

Smith & Wesson also specializes in making accessories for shooting, hunting and rugged outdoor enthusiasts.

Kingsport-based Taylor Brands is a designer and distributor of high-quality knives and specialty tools.

“We are proud that the company my family founded in 1975 has grown to become a leading and highly regarded knife and tool provider,” said Morgan Taylor, President of Taylor Brands. We look forward to achieving our next level of growth and continuing to serve our loyal customers as part of Smith & Wesson and with the benefit of Battenfeld Technologies’ extensive distribution network and product development processes.”

According to a release, Taylor Brands has been a “long-standing licensee for both Smith & Wesson and M&P branded knives and is the owner of a number of highly-regarded, legacy brands including Schrade, Uncle Henry, Old Timer, and Imperial.”

Taylor Brands currently operates in a 160,000 square foot facility.

I love the Colt knives I have. All were made in Usa or Japan in the 90's.. Guess I'd better hang on to them, huh?

At this point Ellis I believe anything bearing the name should be held onto until we see how this plays out. That is just my opinion :)

I also think it will be interesting to see the Schrade, Uncle Henry, Old Timer, and Imperial brands go through another transition.

Article concerning history of Colt Knives.

As a collector of "old stampings" .. I did not recognize COLT as an old brand .. seems .. I was right. Colt started branding knives in 1969.

Something here strikes me as a “false flag” event.

If one reads SMKW's press release critically .. one might note “under their current licensing deals”.

OK .. so what will it take to arrive @ a new licensing agreement. The answer is simple .. $.

And the “... according to a source close to Colt, there is no plan anywhere in sight to start making knives again.” Well .. given they're just emerging from chapter 11 restructuring .. I'd bet there exist quite a few very specific items that “there is no plan anywhere in sight” @ the given moment for.

Really .. does anyone actually believe that someone …...... might be James Frost .. could be Bear & Son ..or.. anyone in between …...... could not renegotiate a licensing agreement.

Seems like a bit of a “false flag” event to me .. designed to move some inventory.

Colt branded knives manufactured prior to 1993 are truly collectors items !!!

If you've Colt branded knives from the early 90's or earlier .. you've genuine collector's items !!

That is .. just an opinion .. mine.

My formal training is in engineering .. EE.

My career necessitated working hand-n-hand with the sales staff.

I had the privilege of working with some very successful sales people.

The "spin" they could place on a situation .. allowed them to "sell ice to an eskimo".

I purchased MANY knives from PKCS (Parker Knife Collector Service) while it was active.

The "spin" James Parker often used for sales was ... impressive.

The recent occurrences in Turkey have generated "false flag" theories.

Everything combined .. has perhaps .. given me "false flag" on the brain.

One thing I do wish to make clear ...

Ellis H. Roberson .. if you've Colt branded product from the early "90's & earlier ..

!!! .. You've genuine collector's items .. !!!
