Display Case

I pretty much have had my knives in a plastic tub. Last year for Christmas my wife got me the small oak chest in the attached picture. It is very nice but holds so few knives I started my search for an economical yet sizable display option.

I found these flat file cabinets also in the pictures. It has 10 drawers, 15x24x2. The ones I found were very expensive so I started searching e bay and found this one for a great price. I picked up some foam and the funny blue pic is fabric samples. I am going to line the drawers with foam and cover it in fabric. Then build my display one drawer at a time. I can even create little cards for the file slot behind the handles to indicate which type/maker is in the drawer

I would love to see anyone else's display case!! I will post pics to show my progress!!

Your thought would be appreciated!!

Don, that was a good choice with the file cabinet. You can store a bunch of knives there. I got to thinking when I read how you attached the lining. I had an old Dodge Viper a while back and I had to fix the headliner. I bought some headliner adhesive in a spray can and I was thinking it may be good for attaching the liner for a couple of display cases I have too. It certainly was easy on the headliner so may work.

Thank you!! I have more drawers to go!! Working on it a little at a time. The spray adhesive placing the foam and fabric permanently would work well!! My little A.G. Russel collection is in drawer 2.

I just can't seem to put all mine away in a drawer or basement. Lol...Luckily I have a wife that understands my needs. These are on either side of my living room.

I was looking at display cases on ebay and came across this. My wife just gave me the ok so I am going to get one and if it works out may get another later. It is 6' tall and 29" wide. I also ordered one of the wood machinist cabs. My wife is in there clearing a space for me to put them. She will assemble them for me too.,..lol she amazes me with the work she does for me around here.

Thats a really cool wife!! My collection is in my office. I can show them when I want and keep them safe from preying eyes at the same time.

When we first moved here , we were turning the family room into a music room, but now it's the knife room although we do have some guitars and mandolins there too. Our youngest just moved out a few months ago so we have the whole place now to do things we want. She turned his room into a crafts room. She's even started liking knives now too and has a small collection of her own. I know what you mean about prying eyes. I have to be very careful when grandkids are around! I always try to get the little one's interested but make sure to teach them safety.

I got my first pocket knife at about 5/6. My dad taught me safety and that it was and still is the most important tool to own and know how to use. I started in cub scouts and I pretty much was never without a knife. The flat file cabinet is working very well so far. My case collection is attached. I want to put my fixed blades out so I will be changing drawers and contents. But for now I am having fun, wiping them down and have the ability to easily show them off.

Good looking set-up and nice knives as well! Your Dad did right teaching you safety. So many memories I recall about Dad and the stories he could tell about every knife he had owned. Not long before he passed, I found an old WWII Navy knife and gave it to him. He kept it on his kitchen counter until he passed. After passing all the kids got together and took all his possesions and divided them up. I just wanted that knife and an old cooking pot his aunt had given him 70 years ago. I'll keep those two things because I recall the stories that he would tell me for hours about them. A knife can be so much more. Nice knives you have there! Good set-up too.
