YUM YUM YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Lemon Pie for dessert

Today, we are having Venison Sloppy Joe - and I do love it.

Sounds like a winner, to me.  Add a side order of fries, onion rings and a diet coke

well tonight was grilled cheese and tomato soup but ready for the new year is.....

Black eyed peas are soaking

Collard greens are cooling and ready to go into the fridge

Gotta have that southern traditional new years dinner!!

Guess you'll be wanting a birthday cake for desert? 29 candles right?

Do you eat black-eyed peas for good luck on New Year's Day? This tradition may have some beginnings from the Civil War.

Some suggest the tradition dates back to the Civil War, when Union troops, especially in areas targeted by General William Tecumseh Sherman, typically stripped the countryside of all stored food, crops, and livestock, and destroyed whatever they could not carry away. At that time, Northerners considered "field peas" and field corn suitable only for animal fodder, and did not steal or destroy these humble foods.

In the Southern United States, the peas are typically cooked with a pork product for flavoring (such as bacon, ham bones, fatback, or hog jowl), diced onion, and served with a hot chili sauce or a pepper-flavored vinegar.

The traditional meal also includes collard, turnip, or mustard greens, and ham. The peas, since they swell when cooked, symbolize prosperity; the greens symbolize money; the pork, because pigs root forward when foraging, represents positive motion. Cornbread also often accompanies this meal.

More like this

Ham? Yep
Black eyed peas? Sure!
Greens? Oh heck yeah.

Now if I'm real lucky, I'll get a pone of cracklin cornbread, too.
Tall glass of sweet tea,
OH BOY.

Before Memorial Day barbecue.

Smoked jalapeño and cheese sausage, smoked sausage, foil potatoes on the grill cooked with Vidalia onion, drizzled with bacon grease and olive oil, cheese and bacon added after foil is opened and Bush's spicy baked beans. Oh and bacon while cooking and after.

Now that sounds like a wonderful meal!

Shucks...

I had leftover corndogs, from Sonic's 50¢ sale yesterday.

JJ, I had a couple of those for lunch last Thursday.
