Thanks Ron you bring up some good points that could almost be in discussion all by themselves.

  1. Poor distribution on print publications, wonder what the editors of knife magazines would say about that?
  2. Out of stock situations on a knife you want but can't get. I have seen that happen before only to have the same knives do exactly what your are talking about, double or triple in price. So you wonder low production runs, creating demand on a hot knife? Could be.

#'s 1 2 & 3 for me, also!

So much of my free time is spent online scouring the various forums for bits of news and information. Print publications occasionally. But, I rely upon printed material primarily for reference. Also, because print publications can be rather elusive if you don't have a subscription. It's really hit or miss on news stands and bookstores. One local Barnes & Noble that I frequent told me upon my inquiry that they only order 2 Blade magazines a month for their entire store. I got lucky one month, but rarely do.

I also depend on conversations I have with my friends who work at a local cutlery shop. Usually in relation to specific brand names such as Spyderco. Trying to stay up to speed on certain Sprint runs can be a challenge. It really is a case of "you snooze, you lose" when it comes to limited production runs on knives that sell out of pre-orders oftentimes in a matter of a few short hours. If you miss the boat on certain knives you'll likely be paying someone double somewhere down the road, if you really want that model badly enough.

The knife world is becoming more and more cut-throat and greedy! Communication is crucial and time is of the essence!

Good topic! Thanks, "Hog!"

Another Knife World, vote. That's interesting I hope they are listening. Actually sounds great just being able to get together personally with a few knife buddies to talk through things, a highly recommended form of communication in my opinion.
Thanks for the iKC plug too!

I do Knife World, Best thing out there to cover everything!

Other Forums and some good old Knife friends that I get together with every week.

I work with another knife collector and two others come by the shop almost daily. So it's lots of talk and some knife show and tell always.

Third Sunday of every month a local knife club has their meeting and have booths of sale items and a lot of chatter there also.

Also get some emails from dealers I buy from to keep me up to date on new items.

Not to mention a couple of Organizations I belong to.

iKC does a pretty good job!

For me mainly knifeforums. Not much else really. I don't have a lot of direct friends that are into knives the same way I am and there is littla availibility of magazines. I check facebook a little but not all that much for knifenews really.

OK a strong 2 Alexander. yeah I find Facebook a huge disappointment as far as news...jokes yes, family yes, politics, yes knives no not really!

I suscribe to both Knives Illustrated and Blade, but at least three members endorsed Knife World..so you might check those 3 and see if any fit the bill for you. One member has indicated some publications are just not available where they live so i am interested to here if you see any locally or if you have to get them via mail.

There is not any knife magazines around here anywhere. I wish there was so I could buy one and look at it before deciding to get a subscription.

Interesting Robert(and thanks for spending part of your birthday with us!) The knife magazines I am quite certain are reading this too and its just too bad we can't get more magazines and newsletters out there.
