Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Hey everyone GEC has released the new 62 Maverick! First one was a Tidioute 621312 on August 24 handled in Ebony wood. The second was all so a Tidioute but handled in a acrylic called Blue Corduroy that in my opinion is pretty cool. For those of you that checked out GEC's jig naming contest, take a look at the knife to picture the new bone on it and as always let us know what you think!

I am not totally sure on this one yet, but I have a bunch of the 62 Courthouse Whittlers and I do really like them so this one can't be far off. The blue corduroy reminds me of one of the old celluloids and that is pretty cool! I pulled one of my 62's - a Tidioute in Garnet jig bone to be a user and have been using it to do some whittling lately.  The wood that I am whittling on is a piece of a Camellia which is harder than I remember. But the 62 is doing a pretty good job at it. I have also been using a#25 jack with a Wharnie blade, and also gave a Powderhorn #12 and a #48 Northwoods Scagel made by GEC  that has a convex grind a shot.  The barlow jack probably did the best job but the #62 did well and I was very impressed by the sharpness of the convex #48. The #62 might make a great smaller version of the Cuban Castro - make it with 4 blades!

I agree Tom, that  blue corduroy DOES remind one of the old celluloids!  Hope they use it on some other patterns.

Okay, I have a question for you GEC experts....especially the ones that might have contact with GEC.......I've searched high and low, I can't find any old company that made a "Congress-Stockman". Did GEC get that idea from and old pattern I haven't come across, or is it an idea of their own?

It's interesting, I just wondered if its based on an old timey pattern?

Craig,

I did have an opportunity to ask Bill about this.  To the best of our knowledge, not done before.  Thats not to say it has not been done but he nor I were able to find any previous reference to a stockman done on a congress type frame.

We got ours today and I gotta tell you.  I love this knife.  The blade configuration makes it user friendly no matter what task you need (OK except cutting down a tree). The pen blade is easily accessible with a small built in ez open slot.  And they all open and close smooth as butter with great snap.

More pic are in my pictures

Thanks Jan, I appreciate it!

Looks good!

Thanks Jan! Great photo! I didn't know it had an ez open slot.

Which one do you like?

Does all of them count? I like them all.....

If I had to pick just one? Only one? Hmmm........the jigged bone. No, the stag. No wait, the king wood....that's it. Well, maybe the  ebony......or corduroy. I don't know.

Not sure if I need one of these, they sure look.... interesting.

I need to see one in person.
