Bulldog has 3 wharncliffe whittler patterns. I think I like the 3 7/8" "Viking" model is the best size.

I like the small one too, Jan. It's just the mid size has the same blades as the large one with a smaller frame.

My favorite Bulldog patterns, in order:

1) Sunfish, or Elephant Toe; especially the uneven end type where one end is larger the other. There were some early ones made by mistake due to a tooling mix-up and these draw a premium price. In 2007 a full line with different handle materials was also released.

2) Serpentine Sowbelly Stockman, 3 blade and 5 blade. The flowing lines remind me of Italian sport cars and kittens. A feel-good design.

3) 3 blade Trapper. This one is unusual and I like it for being different.

4) OK, the wharncliffe whittler! If they came with a different tang stamp I would jump all over one. Weird how a prejudice over a silly tang stamp can blind one to the other positive qualities of a beautiful knife. It even has the flowing lines of the serpentine stockman and one end is larger than the other like the Sunfish. The wharnie blade is different and desireable also.

When I first started collecting pocket knives, I spent months poring over ebay listings. Thousands and thousands of listings. After a while, I started noticing I was looking at some patterns more often than others. Then I saw that the same pattern was made by many different companies. Finally, the patterns I started bidding on were Bulldogs because their lines were more attractive than any other company. Although I do collect other brands of knives, I'm always comparing them to Bulldogs.

Nice list there. I dont buy much from ebay any longer but I still love to go do research and see whats out there. Sometimes it is the only way to find a piece you really need to fill a gap in a collection but it is always fun to look :)

These are some of my Bulldog artifacts. I really can't explain my attraction, but, of all the brands out there, Bulldogs really get my attention!

J.J.'s stag handled Whittler is among one of the nicest I have seen! I just can't seem to get lucky on one of those...yet!

Anyhow, I just happened to come across this thread and thought I would post a few pics I had laying around in my archives. The stag Canoe is a first generation Tobacco Leaf, English Steel, 'Dog.
