The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
What I have here is the M1 Bayonet Replica that you might have seen around and about on the internet. I have a real WWII M1 bayonet but it is used condition. I wanted a new looking one to go with my replica M1 Garand (I can't afford a real Garand! LOL!).
I didn't know what to expect with this, as I've never owned anything by the famous SZCO Supplies, Inc. LOL!!
My first impression was, it's very nice, but, it has a VERY shiny black finish! The overall quality is actually quite good....all the details and lock and release all match up to my real one, and the handle is very nice.... but the shiny has to go!
Sooo, I took it apart, washed it down with lacquer thinner, roughed up the surface a bit and sprayed it with Rustoleum Satin Black.
I now like it much better and I'm pretty impressed with it's quality. Yes, it's made in China out of "Stainless Steel". For only $24.95 at Smokey Mountain Knife Works, I'm quite please with it.

some good tips, Craig. I saw this and Colt's V42 at SMKW when I visited last March. I passed on both because of the shiny black finish. It just looked really, really cheap. The new treatment you gave it makes it look much better.
Too bad about the stainless part, but then for the price...it's what you expect. Again looks pretty darn good. :ike that camo in background, also.
Thanks Toby! Yeah, that shiny black is a real turn off! And if I had my druthers, I'd want it in carbon steel too...but like you say, what do you expect for 25 bucks.
The camo is one of several panels I have off of a parachute:)
You have more than recovered your investment just in the hardware. I can see you getting the urge to update an old bayonet .
thats a good set up, is that a 30 cal m 1 thanks tom
He roughed it up real good!
And, according to the friend who gifted this piece of military history to me, it was carried by his Uncle who was serving in the Marine Corps.
I think your way was probably a whole lot easier, eh, Craig?
I guess I should also add that this is a very real M1 bayonet!
I also hope that no one gets mad at me for crashing this thread with all these pictures? Please try to forgive me -- I'm nearly as old as the bayonet!
I am so sorry I have not seen that yet. Wow that Bayonet is something. I don't collect them, in fact my only military blade is the Cataraugus 225Q. (which I just love) A bayonet has my interest though and I may have to look more closely for one.
In fact I see that bayonet sports a PAL tang stamp that I like quite a bit!
