I inherited this dagger frome my grandpa. He aquired it when he was docked in the phillipines during WWII with the USS SanDiago. he mailed it home to my great grandmother who held onto it till he returned home frome the war i have tryed to find a value but I cant seam to find anthing like it. I have no entrest in selling it just want to share it with other people who appreciate thing like this.

Hello, What it looks like you have is commonly referred to as a talibong and is from the Visayan area of the Philippines. There are many of these that were brought of sent back by our servicemen before during and after WWII. Yours having a figural hilt is not as common as most. If you would please show a photo of the other side of the knife. Thank you and I hope that this is of some help to you.

BTW, the file markings on the blade near the hilt are talismanic marks and are found throughout the Philippines. They are believed to be ancient symbols and are put on blades to protect their owners.
