Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

their ae a few things wrong with this knife but their is one thing that stands out like  sore thumb and i would just walk away...

SO ...WHATS WRONG???  trying to think of a good way to teach folks with keeping it IKC friendly...

BUT -truth is the truth..and even "experts" cant hide it. their are just things that cant happen without the knife being messed with... {IE-you may have the right blade but that etch on it floating all around the blade is just not possible as it was not to factory specs...or if you see 2 or 3 kick marks on the inside springs{you will need about a 10x magnify for thing like that - if the blade has been taken out and replaced..even with same blade...NO TO KICK MARKS ARE THE SAME}...  more to know!

so may have to blow it up a litle to see whats wrog but i can tell in this pic.

1. handle of "stag" does not fit

2. shield is not fitting in properly

3. Can't make out the tang stamp too well!

I'll go a bit further than Steve here;
Looks like the scales have been replaced. That sure doesn't look like H&R stag, also the shield is in at a 90degree angle. I can make out the tang stamp though it doesn't fit properly.

I think, that it may not have a real Hen and Rooster blade. May be a complete, nock off.

The shield is turned the wrong way.  The top of the shield should  not be pointed at the bolster

GREAT ANSWERS FOLKS!!.. thank you for taking the time.

the knife did sell and broke 70$ plus shipping being advertised as MINT. IE-with the box only being scuffed from storage...LOL!.. SAD!  ..the marking on the box..doesnt match the tang stamp or the shield!!

every answer above is correct. if anything this looks more like BEAR MGC parts. ie the blade and the stag.

BUT - even if we couldnt look at that or really prove it... THE SHIELD IS THE DEAD GIVE AWAY... for 3 reasons..

and THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.. WHY?.. it is your actual proof that this knife has in fact in some way been messed with. even though their is lots more wrong... THE SHIELD IS THE KEY TO WALKING AWAY FROM GETTING BURNED HERE!

1. YES THE SHIELD IS NOT EVEN LAYING THE CORRECT WAY for a locckback... but i have seen other models where the shiled is laying thhis way..BUT ON LOCKBACKS FROM THIS ERA THE SHIELD IS INDEED INLAYED WRONG.

2.THE SHIELD IS NOT FROM THIS ERA OF HEN AND ROOSTER.THEY DIDNT SWITCH OUT SHIELDS MUCH BUT THIS IS FROM AN EARLIER MODEL.

im not sure about HEN AND ROOSTER shields and what era they switched from different decorations on the shileds..{some had more feathers then others ..with some having more then just the 2 birds ... REGARDLESS THIS SHIELD I KNOW IS OLDER FOR ONE VERY BIG REASON THAT CANT BE HIDDEN---

3.- and most easy to see if you cannot ..please blow it up and you will easily see the shield is POCKET WORN and THE STAG IS NOT...the STAG actually sits out above the shield..in order for the shiled to have that ware...so must the stag.

this is impossible on a knife that is brand new like this {any knife!}..look how worn that shield is to... feathers gone...beaks gone...ectect...looks like worn coin. even still has patina..didnt bother to even polish it up!

anyway i hope i am helping.. to keep things IKC friendly and not KNIFE BASH on folks.. i figure i would go this route for teaching about fakes.   their is so much to teach without bashing those polluting are great hobby. by teachig this way ..you can learn on your on to avoid the FAKESTERS... i will just continue calling the posts "can you tell me whats wrong with this knife".. and iill just number them.. so in the end will have a comlete log. i have my own reason for this as their will be a nice final lesson in the end! -i hope i helped-

PLEASE LOOK AT THE SHILED AND THE POCKET WARE AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK...

ps-LOOK AT THE PIN CLOSEST TO THE FRONT BOLSTER...LOL...LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE JUST CLIPPED IT OFF WITH SNIPS...HAHA!

I was going to say, even before I read the previous posts.  The shield is facing wrong.  The box logo, shield logo, and tang logo all look different.  And the center pin doesn't look like the other 2.  I would have guessed a rehandled job.  I didn't notice the shield wear vs. the handle wear, so thank you Peter for posting this, and for helping us learn.

On a side note, I thought that the grain of the stag doesn't follow the line of the knife.  Don't most knife manufacturers try to make the stag grain go parallel to the bottom edge of the knife?  This is probably something subjective to the maker, but I was curious.

Thanks, we need to educate each other, on this. No one Polices our knife Hobby, that I know of.

robert ,your right...i couldnt agree more.

i wanted to say that im happy to see the comments coming in!   if you really think about it... even if you are only a user and not a collector and thinking you dont need to worry so much about fake knives... DO YOU WANT YOUR LIFE TO DEPEND ON A FAKE KNIFE?

you may have what you think to be a great solid tac knife at a great deal. when in fake its a fake..{as remember they fake even the boxes tac knives come in and paperwork and all} ... your relying on this awesome tac knife and BOING..it goes!

A HUGE THANX TO ALL WHO KEEP COMMENTING.KEEP THEM COMMENTS AND ANSWERS COMING AS YOU CAN NEVER LEARN TO MUCH!!!!!  ...

hey carl, hey you are indeed correct. the industry standard with stag and all materials really is  yes to meet nicely at the bolsters and at the edges of the knife bottom and top is an industry standard. you are not suppose to feel the stag hanging off at the bottom or top of knife. this is a sign on a production piece of really shabby work or most likely a rehandle. a test a lot of fellaz have shown me is simply dragging your fingrhnail all around the knife.this is how you wil find blade pak and if anything else is not where it should be.a pocket knife is smooth all around like jewelry in the way its all fit.

CARL .. i want to say thank you and to others who have pointed out the stag .. as well as many other things... that is the main thing i am trying to accomplish here. "the learning of production specs to guide in purchasing real production knives"

their might be sop many guesses yto what is wrong with a knife...but lets take theis HEN AND ROOSTER... like i said THE SHEILD AND THE WARE ON IT IS ALONE ENOUGH TO WALK AWAY... i dont need anything else. factory specs tell me that they never have used POCKET WORN SHEILDS. -hope i helped carl.-

again thanx for all the answers..... and CARL and others with the WORN SHEILD.. im sure you have heard it 10000 times...they call it "reading the knife" ... anytime you have worn parts with new parts...time to look hard.

Yes, I have heard "reading the knife" many times.  It is clear as day now that you pointed it out, but I was focused on the shield not facing the correct way, and completely missed the obvious wearing of the shield.
