Thanks you

I am sad to read this.  I also wish that USA based knife companies could all stay in business.  I always feel a little guilty that I didn't spend money there.  Now I wish I had bought a few.  It is a shame they are going out of business.

I would have loved to have seen this fine company do more advertising.  I know folks that are now saying they are surprised, they thought they went out of business a couple of years ago

I bought a few Canal Streets from Droppointhunter.com over the last year or so.  Sad to hear that the successor to Schrade in Ellenville, NY is also closing.  Pocket knives are apparently a tough market, with less expensive imports all over the place.  Canal Street was making upscale knives, perhaps just under custom folders, and the price point a bit high given the imports and the boxes of knives you can get from Cutlery Corner.  As I recall, imports have always plagued U.S. knife manufacturers, especially when the exchange rate was not in the U.S.s favor.  Plus, U.S. companies, given quality control management of their off shore production are producing pretty good quality knives.  Some days I think it a marvel that W.R. Case, or Queen, etc. are still in business.

I know this is a little late, but I understand that some of the original employees had either passed or quit. There just aren't that many people left with the skill set to do the job. I was glad to hear that all of their stock, unfinished knives, parts etc, have been destroyed. Knives being assembled from parts after the closing and bringing into question the authenticity of their brand..like what happened to Schrade, won't happen with CS knives.

I had heard they destroyed anything unfinished also.  Good job on keeping the line clean

I just purchased my first "Canal Street Cutlery" knife.

.

!!! .. YES .. !!!

.

Big kudos to A. G. Russell .. specifically .. Customer Service Manager , Mary Ann Kruger.

.

After learning of their closure .. Canal Street Cutlery .. I also experienced regret for not purchasing one previously.

.

The weather has taken a cold turn here lately .. spent the week-end indoors .. was paging through some of my cutlery catalogs .. when I noticed a Canal Street Cutlery 10th Anniversary Pinch listed in A.G.Russell Knives (Late Summer 2015). I got a little excited. Then .. checked the later issues. Nope .. not listed in any later catalog. Shoot .. missed another one.

.

I'm fond of a nice Pinch. For those not familiar .. it's a lock back where the lock-bar is raised above the frame ..instead of .. flush with the frame as you'll see in most lock backs.

.

I got online & did a quick search of AG's online store .. they've a few Canal Street Cutlery left ..but.. no pinch. Soooo .. I emailed them. Provided catalog #, pg. #,  knife description, item #, my customer # ..&.. inquired on ANY stock.

.

That was Sat. Had an email waiting me today from Ms. Kruger. She'd checked their showroom .. found one .. snatched it .. & emailed me w/ it sitting on her desk .. wondering if I wanted it.

.

It should be on it's way tomorrow .. BIG smile !!!

.

The 3" clip blade is 440C tempered to a 59 +/-1 HRC ..&.. it's a 10th anniversary edition limited to 200 pcs.

.

!!! .. I'm doing the YES dance .. !!!

Stock pic.

It arrived today .. fit-n-finish is impressive ..&.. it came VERY sharp.

Action is smooth as silk.

Lock-up is secure.

Zero side play when the lock is released.

.

3" clip point blade.

440C tempered to a 59 +/-1 HRC.

Mirror polished finish.

Deep Green Micarta scales.

10th anniversary .. 200 pieces.

Pocket clip etched "2004 - 2014, 10th Anniversary"

It is a good looking knife.  Such a shame

This development was very frustrating for me to hear about.  I had been looking to buy a CSC for about a year.  I don't really care for stainless blades, but I understand that they had made a good many knives in D2.  I had called and emailed CSC directly to ask which knives they had offered in D2 and if they knew of any dealers that I might look into acquiring such a knife from.  I got no response.  I emailed a CSC employee that is a member of another site that I frequent asking the same questions.  Again, I got no response.  I tried emailing the company again and got a reply that simply listed three knife shops.  No message at all, just a list of three dealers.  I contacted each of the dealers and two had no CSC knives in stock at all.  The third didn't remember ever carrying any CSC knives in D2.  I gave up after this.

My point is that this seems like a case of a company that made a product that people liked, they just didn't do a good job of selling that product.  It's a shame that they couldn't figure out a way to engage potential customers like myself.  If they had they might still be around.
