The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Good morning. I just conducted a trade for a Benchmade AFO. It appears to be real but still not sure. I've done a little research but haven't found an answer yet.
It has a silver handle and what I'd call a sand blasted stainless blade appearance. The blade has not been taken down as the Bali-Song Butterfly and Benchmade USA are still on the blade. Blade has been used but not abused or sharpened. (Looks like it was used to sharpen a pencil.) No blade material marking on the blade.
The box it came in was not a standard Benchmade box. About 2" x 2" x 5" long. White with a Made in USA sticker on it. Hand printed. NATO AUTO on one side. NATO AUTO with BS on other. Top said NATO Automatic and below that AFO Silver. The sides were done in one pen, the top in two others.
Fires very strong and smooth like any other AFO I've owned. No belt clip or any holes for the mounting of one.
Wife put the camera somewhere so I'll have to post pictures later.
Any idears?

Here are some photos. I'm getting the idea it's one of two things. One, a decent fake. Two, an early model. Like I said, no pocket clip and forgot to mention no safety. I've carried Benchmades since 94/95ish and they've all had pocket clips if I remember correct.

From Benchmade itself:
"Movable steel pocket clip for versatile/accessible carry. Comes with hooded, ballistic nylon sheath
for belt or lashed carry."
I have a 9053SBT that I received new and it came the same way: with sheath and belt clip.
