Guilty Pleasures

Ok, we all have at least one knife that we have more affection for than we should but we can't help it. It probably didn't have a long production run and has probably long since been discontinued. It might not composed of the greatest materials, and the fit and finish may leave plenty of room for desire. Maybe the blade stains easy, sticks a bit, or grazes the liner a little when you close it. But despite all of those demerits we have a soft spot in our hearts for them. You know, its that knife that the collector in you knows you should dump but you just can't bring yourself to do it.

Show us a pic and tell us what it is, why some people might not think they are so great, and why you love it anyway.

The Cons...
1) The thermoplastic handles leave a lot to be desired in their tactile qualities. Its not slippery but its not particularly grippy either.
2) Of all the 3 examples of this knife I have owned, each one's blade gently kissed the inside of the liner.
3) The tip is pretty pointy and prone to breaking if abused. Although I've never broken mine. However, I know others that I have given to people that have broken.
4) No lanyard hole.
5) The oblong hole takes some getting used to flick completely open with your thumb.
6) The clip isn't extremely tough and can bend if your you are not careful. It also rights a little high for my taste and I am always checking to make sure it is still there.
7) it is now discontinued and during its production, it was pretty inexpensive (ok, I will admit, cheap).

Why I like it anyway
1) It was cheap!
2) The handle shape conforms pretty well to my hand and reminds me a bit of Ken Onion's handle designs.
3) You can grip it two ways with a standard grip, by either wrapping your finger around the cutout for the liner lock or chocking up a bit with your index finger around a small but reasonable finger choil for control.
4) Despite kissing the liner a bit, it opens quite smoothly due to a pair of apparently efficient washers on either side of the blade.
5) It has an oblong hole for easy one hand opening, like a spydy-hole...you can even do a spydy-drop with it.
6) Its pretty sharp, and with vigilant touch up work seems to stay that way.
7) Its a great beater knife. It sticks in the dirt, on wood decks, and trees if properly aimed...LOL
8) It does have a screwed in pivot pin, although despite this fact I still cannot tighten it properly to keep the blade from hitting the liner at times.
9) It seems to lock up well and has never failed on me.
10) I one gave one to a boy who showed proper respect for a knife (at least while I was looking) is now a man that enjoys using knives and knows a quality one when he sees one but still has sentimental value for this one like I do - even though he learned his lesson about using them to pry with and broke his first one...when I wasn't watching of course.

this knife started a tradition for me, that is buying myself a knife for my birthday. but, on my 16th birthday i got this, also the same day my dad had a stroke. I like the wood and the blade shape (it did not come polished, i did that) and its the first knife i got really sharp. downsides to this knife are: Slow deployment, single side thumb stud wiggley lock up, poor liner lock, the cutouts in the blade are a major pain and the edges of the handle are a little sharp

PS: its a federal premium ammunition knife, not sure who really made it.

If you're ever looking to upgrade the FP, you might want to consider the Kershaw Nakamura (model #1480. It has a similar look/styling to the FP but is more quality made.

Hi Matt,
Nice to see someone stick up for the CS Pocket Bushman. I don't own one yet, although after hearing more positive reviews like yours I am probably a little closer to it. All of the negative talk about it seemed to way out of proportion, especially for a $19 knife, or even a $40 knife-current SRP.

This is just the kind of knife I was hoping to see in this post. The ones we like anyway.
