Looking at these Rough Riders at SMKW's .
I know about the whole China debate. But was wondering about the quality. I am taking into consideration the price as well. How well are they made, please?

Actually there's some places that have better/different selection and prices than SMKW.  But SMKW is good. AND, if you get a clunker RR they may very well tell you to keep it and they'll send you another. Yes I've gotten several clunkers, and SMKW sent me a new knife without me sending mine back!

Okay, how good are they. I have around 150 RRs. On average they are good. Some VERY good. But it started to seem like the more I bought the more clunkers I was getting. All kinds of various problems. They're A LOT cheaper, BUT, it started to seem like I kept saying "I just get another just like the one I just bought to get one I'm completely happy with"!  I bought 6 Peanuts to get one I was completely happy with, for example. I recently bought two Case Peanuts and I was completely happy with both.

BUT, all of that being said they are worth trying/getting. I have quite a few I really like and would not get rid of them!  They are chaeap/inexpensive so you'rte not out much if you don't like them. And if you do like them you got a good knife for little spent. Don't get me wrong, generally they are GOOD.

All that being said, there are SOME people that say that other Chinese made knives are just a tiny bit better for a few dollars more; Boker, Colt, etc. I don't know, RRs are the only Chinese made knives I have.

Thanks. Thinking bout trying some. Like the look of some of their canoes.

Oh, they're Canoe is a good one! I haven't gotten a RR Canoe that wasn't nice. I have quite a few.

I don't think you can go wrong with Rough Rider at all. Its a fine, inexpensive knife, The quality is good overall, at least for the ones I have gotten. The SMKW web site is good too and usually you can find the pattern and color you want. Sometimes they run shipping deals so watch for that and save all around! Rest assured they do stand behind them and they are good quality knife folks.

Thanks. I've seen a good bit that I liked. Had not every held one so did not know.

Steven,

My son collects them so I have bought quite a few over the past few years.  Some I buy online and hope for the best but mostly I buy them at SMKW, a hands on the actual knife experience.

I probably buy 4 to 6 of them a year and dont know that I have ever gotten a bad one but it is a case where you look at the knife and measure the value of what you paid for it.  Mostly what I think and what I hear about RR?  Very nice knife for the cost. Think about that saying, it is really a pretty good compliment.

I have never heard anyone say the RR cost me 14.00 and it was not worth it.  As Hog said "Rest assured they do stand behind them and they are good quality knife folks."

Thanks everybody. This has been real good info. Gonna take the leap and see what they got.

To be completely honest, I have a few that I'd give to you right now for free (LOL!), and others that I won't sell! But you probably could say that for a lot of knives?

They are very good knives for the price paid. If I lose or break one, I will not be crying.. I have over 250 of them and am happy with most of them. If I am going to spend over $20.00 for a knife, I will usually suck it up and add to that to buy USA or German made knives. While I am thinking about it, I did buy myself a Rough Rider Gunstock with a liner lock and a pocket clip for $8.00 the other night along with 4 legs for my wife. The other one I bought was GEC Farmhand with the glow in the dark handle. I think GEC makes the best USA pocket knife that you can buy. They also make knives for other brands also.

Is it just me, or are RRs Peanuts, Canoes, standard Trappers, and standard Barlows particularly good?

Well, i done it....went and bought 2 rough riders today at the local flea market (new of course).

They seem to be pretty good knives. Gonna use em a bit and see how they hold up. They look awesome and feel good in the hand. Very strong snap and the blades satisfy me just fine!

I know me, will probably be picking more and more and more of them up in the very near future.

Good Steven, glad to hear you got a few, can't wait to see them and hear about what you think!
