I have often told folks the world of knives if much larger than they think but the community of knife makers is actually smaller than a postage stamp.  In a community you all know is chock full of heavy competition, it never ceases to amaze me that virtually every maker will bring on an apprentice, will stop their day to chat on the phone and help someone work through an issue with making one or just stand around at a show talking best practices.  From the makers I hear, I was always grateful when someone would help me.  From the recipients of the knowledge mostly the comments are around, I will be forever grateful.  From the collectors I hear, he trained with ...............!!!

I have heard all of these about Tony Bose, a man with a huge heart and a true love for the knife community, in its entirety.  Of course his most famous apprentice is his son Reese.  Tony often says "I have helped a lot of guys figure out how to make pocket knives, but Reese is the only one I have taught".

What can I say about the next maker I spent time with?  His story intrigued me before I ever put a hand on one of his knives.  His pursuit of perfection made me HAVE to have one the first time I held his knives.  His friendship and support when I started my journey here at iKC has been and is a joy in my everyday life.  Mr Greg Dash and the knives

The new sheath is sweet!  Holds the knife secure and allows for drawing smoothly and simply

The Blade show is so much more than just a knife show.  The reason it is so looked forward to is not only the sheer number of makers, suppliers and collectors but the events within the event.  Like the Samurai demonstrations

and the Knife Rights breakfast, this year with Sheriff David Clark

There will be more discussion on the breakfast and guest speaker tomorrow

I wanted to end today's entries but sharing some of the fun you can see if you just keep your eyes open.  Not only did Battle Horse Knives have an impressive Castle display going on but they had an area where kids could be kids!

Let the battle begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and our champion finally beat Ms Alicia with one hand tied behind his back!

I just got this today.  The blade show was fun, as usual.  You can see one of my purchases on the Blade Show blog.

Thanks for all of the posting Jan.  I saw more here than I did while we were at Blade.  Time spent behind the table rather than looking around the room I suppose.  Your efforts are very much appreciated!

Thanks for Stopping by Jan. It was very nice to meet you and your Husband. You guys brightened my day!

A joyous moment for me was having the opportunity to not only meet our own Garett Finney but also to meet his father and put my hands on his work!  This young man will go far in the industry and it is my understanding that being at the Blade Show this year will have been good for him. Garett is a man of strong family values and faith and a moment of fellowship on Saturday was as welcome as could be.  Garett's profile and his knives can be found here http://iknifecollector.com/profile/GarettFinney

Somehow Jan never came by the Knife World table while I was around, but Kim (KW's layout artist and advertising coordinator) assures me that she was there! I did see Donnie twice...

Mark I missed so many good folks I wanted to see, next weekend at Parkers show??

Thanks for sharing all the pics Jan. Always a treat to see and talk with you and Donnie.  Wish I could have gotten out and visited with some of the rest of the members. Rick wouldn't let me stray far....should of cut my phone off....
