Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I think we need to get a jump on this, so those people who have to plan ahead to purchase one can do so.

Let us discuss and then lockdown a pattern/design, get it priced out and ordered. Buying a knife around the winter holidays is difficult for everyone.

My vote is for a jack/mtnman/barlow-esque pattern Large (or Medium)

Stag/Bone/Burl wood

One/two blades

I would prefer Carbon blades, but an exotic SS is fine.

i have yet to handle a 2012 IKC knife but am soon.  i just wanna say right of the bat...someone said in an earlier ost something very simple but great...and along the lines of what i said and how i feel...something  about the 2012 IKC knife being chinzier..{i guess not as fancy}

.....that is what i am simply saying... yes we all want a affordable club knife...but they are knives that should cost that little extra because they should have that little extra that says LOOK AT ME IM A CLUB KNIFE!!!

whats nice is the sooner you plan ahead...the more folks can afford a nicer knife.think if you released the 2013 knife now for sale in November...already how many more sales and knives made simply because folks can take the time to save.

if you have 9 months notice on a club knife.. all you need to do is save 17$ a month for 9 months

and you have 153$... a nice club knife really is so much about how much time we can give folks to save.

also,i have another point i would like to make{ i know ,i know...LOL} i buy club knives to benefit the club. I WAS HIGHLY OFFENDED when i heard IKC does not profit from their knife sales.{in the pst i can kind of understand} at the very least their should be no loss at all.ultimately the club knife is one of the ways for the club to maintain itself.sure IKC use to not be so jumping.WE HAVE A WONDERFUL NEW OWNER-JAN..WHO I PERSONALLY ADORE!! ...lets start with the simple thigs like dropped mail.lost posts,or slow or chats that dont even make it.the more membere, the more information going back and forth and picture storage and forums and this and that....all of this adds up somewhere$$$ ... IMO ..any fees collected though to ghelp the lcub should be disclosed.so the person buing the knife knows that $3.45 of each knife sold is going towards the IKC server to update of post drops and chat lag!!.... OK RAMBLIN..POST HIJACK....i hope folks agree... IKC is really starting to become a place i love..i want to see it flourish!...   alo i would love a good ole #23 LAZERED WHITE BONE...INSTEAD OF THE GEC .....IKC.... would be awesome!

SCOTT I 100% agree with you and this is one of the very reasons if not the most important reasons i buy ..or STOP buyig club knives. i could not have said it any better. thank you.

I'm a huge fan of Quality. iKC has so so many High Quality members who are very helpful and informative in so many ways to each other. I personally feel that Price should'nt be a big Factor. I personally would rather pay 200 dollars for a knife that I'm proud to say is from my Favorite Knife community Something that I can appreciate for years to come. A nice#36 pattern would be my vote.

the work horse-for a fixed blade would make a nice club knife-AGREE!... but i have had my eye on that first jknife the SCAHTT heritage series for sometime...i gota find the add with all poof them listed...although the reviews on them are noth the ebst...about holding an edge and so forth...BUT i would love that heriate knife...keep it simple but add a lanyard loop and IKC on the TANG,.,,,no where else... that is sexy!!...lololol

Bob, yes, I agree: our club knife should be an EDC and an outdoors knife as well (but with wood handles). If it’s not too expensive, each of us could buy two – 1 for the wilderness and 1 for the safe ;=).

I like the idea of a single carbon steel blade.

A Daddy Barlow would be fine, especially for Luca (then, should absolutely have wood handles), but I would prefer a smaller pattern. Maybe, yes, a Mountain Man

(with ebony handles – but cocobolo would be an option…)?

But what would you say about something like these ones:

S&M 2011 Heritage Series

Or like this small fixed blade:

dont worry rob your not alone...i have myself quite a ton of fixed blades...lots of customs to...i even collect kitchen cutlery!... lets chat... dioes IKC have a fixed balde forum!!!???

I am one of the few that collects, fixed blades. I know there is alot of collectors that favor this pattern but the majority, collect folders, of one kind or another. I am sure that a club knife in a fixed blade would be hard to sell. The club knives that I buy, are for my collection. I plan on, not useing them, but alot of the members that purchase one, may want to use them. Hey, thats what they make them for...Ha, Ha... We have a great bunch of makers that Miss Jan can get to produce our knives. I will buy one for my collection, no matter what pattern, ya'll pick. The members that want one for it's ability to be used as a EDC, only. The collectors will enjoy this, also. I am just, talking and giving my opinion. I want to hear, more of what, ya'll have to say....

all i know is im starting to see the word POLL...  before i go any firther with that have they ever been used here and if so have they worked??  thank you.

also doont know where were at now... but i still want a barlow, redbone,no shield, etch, single blade IKC stamped setpdown bolsters!!!

on the FIXED BALDE FRONT.... i would vota ANXA... you can have an order off to him and have it back in a few months and knives for a lifetime....IMO!  ~pf~

I have always heard that a camel was a horse designed by a committee.

So, in the context of us designing our horse, please bear in mind that this is a process that takes time and patience. Everyone's suggestion and opinion will be taken into careful consideration and Jan will make every effort to get our Club the best knife possible at a price that everyone who wants one should reasonably be able to afford.

Bearing that in mind, please, trust the process and keep the thoughts and suggestions coming. Don't be afraid to ask questions -- This is your Club! And, as is the case with most things in life, you will get only as much out of it as you are willing to put into it. Let's keep a good positive energy going as we proceed further into this process. If we can all do that, then, I'm sure our patience and trust will be rewarded with a really nice iKC Club Knife for the year of 2013 -- One that we will all be proud to own!

Onward and upward, my friends --Y'all have a knife day, now!

Very Well said!

I love the mention that this is YOUR CLUB!!!!  We intend that to always be the case

We do conduct poll/survey of the members often. This is the members community so it should reflect what they want: Here is a whole category: http://www.iknifecollector.com/forum/categories/ikc-community-surve...

you know, yesterday I too was just looking at some patterns.  I found this and thought I would share it

If you like this pattern, look at this Schatt & Morgan 2001 Series XI carved peach bone baby (3 5/8" closed) sunfish knife (1 of 600). The master blade is etched with SCHATT & MORGAN 1 of 600; the blade tang is stamped S&M Titusville, PA on the front and Queen Cut Co Titusville PA on the back; the secondary blade is etched 2001 042265. The bolsters are nickel silver and it has the inlaid Keystone  shield.

And a rare (1 of 150) and exceptionally nice vintage Marbles Safety Axe Co. (MSA) “mini” (=baby) sunfish : stamped MSA CO. 03 Gladstone Mich USA;  Sambar Stag handles; blades : D-2; bolsters: nickel silver; liners: brass. Made Dec. 2003.

thats it!  i've been able to cllect three over the years..the reason i thought of this one,is it is hard to find, very usable if inclined, but yet is still made in small quantities...very unique.  thanks for that pic. i guess the whittler idea is canned, so, i'll watch and see what the field narrows to,and vote from there.  thanks again!

The Remington Stag handled Norfolk Whittler I reffered to yesterday.  Coupld use bone, wood or any handle material.  I found a used one of these at a flea market and have found many great uses for each of the 3 different blades.

There are many good points to consider here…

Automatics are nice; personally I find spring assisted openers an even better choice though personally as I carry a first release SOG Topo-Meridian every day. That being said though there is something about a good old fashion whittler pattern such as a Norfolk whittler (the one foremost on my mind was a Remington) with a simple jigged bone handle and a main blade that locks (I will find a picture and post it later).

On the fixed blade front...historically fixed blades have not been the top choice for club knives for a multitude of reasons yet no one specific reason to be found. I personally enjoy a good fixed blade and have fond memories of learning Mumblty peg with my Grandfather with a fixed blade kinfolks clip point and I never leave home without my Camillus MK II with custom added Eagle, Globe and Anchor from my the uniform I wore attached to the hilt.

Yet another area to consider though may be a straight razor or perhaps a piece of quality usable kitchen type cutlery...maybe like a cleaver, paring knife or chefs type knife or depending on the manufacture a santoku is a popular kitchen design. They can be found in Carbon steel, Stainless, ceramic, Damascus...well you all know the options.

And yet another option to consider might be a multi tool. With today’s "survival" climate a useful, well thought, versatile, rugged, dependable multi tool might be a spiffy thought.

As for the "Is it too soon" question, I don’t think so at all...In fact I know of two clubs that already have the annual club knife in production already.
