I like lighter carry in the city, heaver in the brush.. my friend has a carbon fiber handled ceramic blade folder..you can't even feel it..

I need a certain amount of weight in my machete. The momentum from the swing helps drive the blade clean through the tree branch of the tree I'm trimming.
I require my edc to be comfortably light in whatever pocket it's resting in.
My lightweight camping hatchet simply lacks the weight necessary for splitting wood.

My effectively heavy splitting maul is too heavy to hike with.

Many a Cattarraugus 225Q was used as a pry bar .. and held up to it .. by virtue of it's temper & breadth .. resulting in a much heavier knife than I'll use dressing out a deer. But then .. the knife I use for that wouldn't hold up to the prying required in dismantling wooden shipping crates  .. a task the 225Q performed admirably.

YES .. I consider weight is an important factor.

Which or what weight depends upon the application.

Aside from my belt pouch comment, I would have to say "no". But I imagine this would be different for certain folks. I carry for a reason. A heavy duty folder for the heavy jobs. A slimmer, pointier medium sized folder for lighter jobs, and a small, sharper folder for small jobs and "Can I borrow your knife" jobs. I use them all, and they all serve a purpose, so I carry for purpose, not so much for comfort. At work anyway. So function wins out there.

Non work carry, I will admit to being vain. Then I carry to show off something I may not have carried lately...so still not weight. That being said, I will carry those in the most comfortable way I can...but I have never not carried a knife because it was too heavy.

I am probably subconsciously thinking exactly what Steve said when I gear up in the morning, but maybe haven't been collecting long enough to even realize yet, hehe..
I think I like the idea of using a leather belt sheath if a want to carry something over a few ounces, too
