Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Hi, I'm new, and I have this knife I was given. It was in deplorable shape, rusted and molding. I did clean it up, as its value to me is historical and in its practical use. I'm not planning on using it, but I would like to put a good edge on it and display it. My books only cover this make in the broadest sense. Any info would help.

Welcome to iKnife Collector! There is so much to Marbles Nick. Let me look at the pictures you provided and see if we can get a date for it. Do you have any idea when it might have been new? Designs changed after 1930 when Webster Marble died.

A customer gave me the knife along with a Ross Mark ii PAL Cutlery bayonet, in Rockingham Vermont. They both were horribly rusted and forgotten. The lady is 92 and almost blind. I offered to buy the knives, but she wouldn't have it. They were in the basement, which is dirt and stone and always wet. The house could easily be a hundred years old. Mine is. :)

very nice knives sir....

Well to me it looks like the Ideal Hunting Knife made from 1900 to 1977. The blade should be 6 inches. Another question for you, does the butt end of the knife which I assume is also stag, does it have a pin?

Butt shot. :o
Has "M.S.A. Co.
Gladstone Mich-USA" at base of blade.

Blade is 6 and 3/4 from hilt to tip.

For about a 5 year period, starting in 1903, Marbles did contract with Case to produce knives with that stamping. Some were made here and some in Germany. I have been unable to find a knife made that was the length you give. They made 4, 4.1/2, 5,5 1/2,6 and I believe they also made a rather large 8 inch.

The Scout knife was 4 inches long.

The edged portion is 6 inches, best guess so far was a scout model, but those are listed at 4 inch.

Yes, 2 inches shorter you'd have a scout!  We'll see if anybody else has an opinion Nick, I still think you have an early model hunting knife and I am sticking with my original assessment for the record. It fits on so many levels, blade pattern, handle, even butt. Tang stamp puts it around turn of the century.

I appreciate the help Steve, thanks.
Could this be an "Ideal" model? I've seen 7 7/8 model(8 inch). Same stag handle stag butt and the same spacer pattern. Also had the same tube sheath.
