Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Fellow iKC members got a question for you.

You know I publish a personal knife collector news blog (CutleryNewsJournal), so here's my question- "if" there was an online knife magazine about to launch, what would you like to see covered or a part of this magazine?

Any "things" that are more important to you than others?

Knifemaker interviews/features, knife reviews, industry news, how-to's, trends, collector profiles, show/event news, etc...what do you say?

Special emphasis on Custom knives? Tacticals? Antiques? Others? New knives? Old knives?

Also, if the magazine had regular columnists or guest contributors providing articles are there any specific knife writers you'd like to see a part of this magazine?

Looking for your specific input here, so what would you like to read about or see as regular features or topics?

If you'd prefer to private message me with you input, please feel free to do so.

I like the old/antique/vintage knife articles
Like BRL'ss Wud Izzzit and special articles on specific knives
I.E. Robeson Jimmy Allen knives, Camillus military knives, Western W49 Bowies, Davy Crockett Imoerial hatchet knives, etc

Industry news is good too

I'm not a huge fan of the tactical knives
I'd rather see articles on Schrade or Camillus

I also like member submitted stories like==>"How did you get into collecting?"
or
"I found my Granpa's knives in the attic"

An auction.exchange/sale section would be nice too
Kinda like Bruce Voyles does every couple months

I'd also like to see a section called==>
"The Business and Economics of Knife Collecting" ;)

Knife reviews get to be kinda vague
"It took 10 chops to cut this pice of hemp rope"
And there is the whole issue of knife magazines NEVER having bad reviews
Have a dislaimer saying you don't accept manufacturs ad fees or something like that?

Jacknife over on Bladeforums writes pretty good knife stories
Maybe the guy who wrote the Case XX book recently?
Or PA Knife Guy?

A custom knife showcase would be cool too

And don't forget us ax/hatchet lovers!!
We get no respect sometimes :(

You going bigtime Scott?
How much per month?
I'd pay, say, maybe, $4.99 amonth for an online magazine??
Throw in a free tshirt or book and I might pay more....;)
Thanks Trent.

On the bad news- I know when I had to report about Case layoffs at CNJ (two different times), it bout killed me, but I did it.

Good stuff here- thanks!

Just gathering ideas, that's all....you know me :)
How about an articale on everyday people with there everyday knife, and how they use them for work or play, and how they feel about there choice!
Trent did a good job of describing what we all would want. subscriber articles would be cool, and a "up and coming" section featuring knife makers would be awesome.

maybe a feature section that would give info and description on knives. like the seahorse whittler for example. give history about when it was first made, blades it has, size, and how it got its name. typical uses, and blade designs. it can be simple stuff for new collectors like what a stockman is, or a congress. maybe a blade pattern like sheeps foot and its use and history.

it will be difficult to balance knife making with collecting, but that is the audience here at iKC.

you could pick someones knife pic that they load on iKC and put it in the magazine. could be a random thing, or you could have a purpose. IDK?

i am not a fan of tactical knives either, but i know some are, so thats cool.

you cant make everyone happy
good luck
CJS
Thanks Jeff.
Good idea Robert- thanks!
A tech/info section ...

Steel analysis ... the dif between 440A & 440C is ... chem make-up, max hardness,... ..
damascene\damascus\pattern welding ... X steel combined w/ Z steel results in pretty pattern ... ..
R steel combined w/ Y steel results in less contrast after etching but can be hardened to XX Rc
XYZ locking system ... analysis .. static load .. X lbs @ Y inches .. catastrophic failure .. test procedure &
results ..

Also .. Trent made some great pts .. never a bad review ... whoah ... what value are the reviews ?? Also .. is he volunteering for the econ papers ???
Yep, Trent and Jeff really did a great jobs with what needs to be there.
CNJ has done well, and been an enjoyable read for us. Keep, also, what you did there as well.
Thanks JJ, I appreciate it. IF a new mag is released, I will have a corner to write in.
Good suggestions Dale....and you think Trent can get tied down long enough to write some non-controversial articles and do so on a regular basis? I doubt it :)
.. on a regular basis .. mmm .. possibly not .. "contributing editor" article .. perhaps !!
.. non-controversial .. that just took all the fun out of it .. Hehehehe

Scott, that's one thing I value about this place .. we're all like minded .. i.e. sharp things .. but, what a potpourri of ideas/opinions I've encountered ..

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I value that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.. an opinion ..

Analyze how iKC has evolved.

I know you started & have been the driving force behind iKC and in no way wish to detract from that ..

But .. at some point .. the member’s form a force which directs the conversations & discussions …

.. want to see what people want … analyze how iKC has evolved .. active discussions = active interest ..

.. diversity .. while my passion is the older production .. I knew where to go for first hand opinions of a Kershaw chive I was considering .. capability for interactive discussion is great ..

Scott .. I think the answer to your question is right here in iKC !!!
