Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I EDC a Case Mini Blackhorn.  It handles all my normal cutting chores just fine.  However it is just a plain black handled knife.  I have decided to buy a new Case knife to put in rotation with the Mini Blackhorn as a "Sunday go to meetin" knife.  The deed will be done when I am at SMKW in July.  I have some Case knives now that would be good for that purpose but they are special to me and I don't want to use them.

I am thinking the knife should be bone or stag.  I would like for everyone to suggest what would be a good knife for this purpose and their reasons.

Thanks in advance for everyone's suggestions.

Well I went and did it.  I ordered my Case Amber Jigged Bone Mini Copperlock tonight. I had planned on waiting another ten days but  a solvent bank account isn't really all its cracked up to be.  Especially when it comes to knives.

I will post pics when I get it.  xxCutlery says they ship in two days with engraving.  So if they ship Tuesday, hopefully I will get it by the end of the week.

It looks to me like a Copperlock is basically a Copperhead with a lock.  Is that a good assumption?

A reasonable assumption, but.....The Copperlock is actually a lock back Trapper with a copperhead bolster added to cover the corner of the tang

Thanks for the info Paul.  One of the things I like about this site is the knowledge available on it.  And just a good bunch of people.

I got that tidbit of information over on the Case Collector's forum.

I'm not a big Trapper fan, but the mini Copperlock is one of my favorite lock backs.

I need to go to the Case Collectors forum more, but it is hard for me to tear myself away from this forum.

Copperlock -

In 1997, Case introduced an entirely new knife pattern that took the collector world by storm. Designed by Case Legend Tom Hart, the CopperLock® (549) combined elements from classic Case knife patterns (Trapper & Copperhead) to make an entirely new lockback knife. With a fully locking blade, it has the cutting power of a lockback, with the look and feel of a traditional Case pocketknife. Throughout 2007, Case celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the CopperLock. In July of 2008, this pattern will be retired to the Case XX Vault for at least 3 years. Closed these knives measure 4 1/4 inches.

I just wanted to thank everyone who posted on this discussion.  It really did help me make my decision.  Probably everyone knows by now that I chose an Amber Jigged Bone Mini Copperlock.  I had my initials engraved on the bolster and ordered a walnut knife box with the Case logo and my name engraved on it.  I received it yesterday.  Here are some pictures.

That's nice...VERY nice.

Beautiful looking knife Charles! I'm glad you're happy with it! :)

Yes that sure is a beauty and the box is darn cool also! So how does it feel? do you think it meets your expectations?

sharp

That is one beautiful user, Charles and you have a great set-up for it.  That walnut box is great!  You might want to consider putting a patch of that fake chamois stuff in the box if you begin using the Copperlock more than for dress.  I clean out the pocket fuzz and re-oil the backspring, and where the blade contacts the liner at the hinge pin (once a month for an EDC) and find that oil oozes for a while - even SAE 140 (only on the hinge/liner part) and might stain your red velvet.
